If that didn't change the week Everton played at Southampton Sunday noon and Bournemouth played away to Liverpool 32 hours later it never will.

if you had a couple of million sky sports subscribers saying that they'd pull the plug on their subscriptions.......and they genuinely followed through with it.......then it would happen.

I think if it was just a bargaining stunt, then it wouldn't have been cancelled so quickly.

I suspect that UEFA told them they would be thrown out of their competitions pretty much straight away. As soon as 1 team pulled out, then it fell like a house of cards.

UEFA and a lot of their "football family" are corrupt as ****. A big part of me would have liked to see them lose out. Even if it meant the clubs getting bigger. But the ESL was destined to fail because the "project" just wasn't that good. I think the no relegation aspect was stupid. Also, it wasn't really a "league" at all. It was a load of matches with a mini-cup competition at the end of it all. Stupid tournament - just like rugby league.

But I do believe the 12 clubs have a genuine right to question the status quo. Well a number of the 12 clubs do anyway - probably not Arsenal / Spurs. In general, these clubs do bring in the most interest. It is just a fact. The likes of Burnley and Southampton aren't getting 100's of millions of pounds in TV revenue for people to watch Burnley and Southampton. That is a legitimate concern from the top teams but now that they've been forced to back down from this change, they will be powerless to make any meaningful changes to the status quo now. At least for a few years.

Personally, i think one way to fix that issue would be to reduce the amount of TV money that clubs receive for being in the Premier League and increase the amount of prizemoney. It is supposed to be all about the competition etc.

The amount of hypocrisy from all angles has been sickening. Sky sports started this whole thing 30 years ago. The likes of Leeds and Everton acting all holier than thou......they'd have been in there like swimwear if they could have joined the super league. They were just too ****e as clubs - maybe 5 to 10 years too early for some of them.

I think the ESL clubs ****ed up because of their approach. They should have tested the water and done the whole thing in baby steps. This should have been a 10 year plan. They should have started with a pre-season tournament - call it the european super league if they like. 2 groups of 6 - with a proper final and maybe 3rd place play off. Proper prize money and an innovative TV offering. If they were able to offer options for fans to just pay for their teams games etc. That would build the story / justification - and would enable them to not do stupid things like not having relegation when the whole thing goes mainstream. They will struggle to come back with something like that now - at least in the short term.

As for the fans, I don't think it is time now for them to celebrate the cancelation of this ESL as a "victory" to be honest. Have a look at what other changes they want and keep talking and taking action. If we genuinely believe that "football is owned by the fans" then it is time to have meaningful collaboration and meaningful action. The last few days has proved that if fans threaten to pull the plug on their support, then this will enable change. The last few days has shown that the powers that be only care about money. (It is strange that a lot of people couldn't see that already!). If fans got together and said:

- we don't like VAR
- we don't like ticket prices costing more than 25 quid
- we don't like subscriptions costing 60 quid a month
- we don't like the fact that a team like Newcastle have to travel to a team like Southampton on a midweek game.......just to fit around TV fixtures


and if they followed that up with cancelling their subscriptions / custom, then they will force changes for the better.

Sky/BT didn't want to charge PPV during lockdown, the clubs did. Sky took costs, clubs took profits. They could have said no? Not really, the PL rights are up for auction soon and you don't really want to piss off the people you want to work with.

Same with charging subscriptions. On FTA you'd get around 40 games a season with the first live game in around October, and unless you followed Liverpool or United, you'd see your team a few times a season at best. Now there's 160 games on Sky alone. Dont want it, don't buy it.

No problem with the criticism of moving kick off times but if you whore yourself for £100m a season, what do you expect?
