With the amount of penalties they get for people just brushing them? Dont be so sure.

It's not over yet, because with Leicester and Chelsea playing each other, at least one of them is guaranteed to drop points. So we only need one other slip up from them, and they both have some other tough games to play.
The problem is that you wouldn't bank on us winning our four "winnable" games at the moment.
Current standings:
3rd Leicester 59 points
4th Chelsea 58 points
5th West Ham 55 points
6th Liverpool 54 points
Remaining games:
LEICESTER
Crystal Palace (H)
Southampton (A)
Newcastle (H)
Man Utd (A)
Chelsea (A)
Spurs (H)
CHELSEA:
Fulham (H)
Man City (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (H)
Aston Villa (A)
WEST HAM:
Burnley (A)
Everton (H)
Brighton (A)
West Brom (A)
Southampton (H)
US:
Man Utd (A)
Southampton (H)
West Brom (A)
Burnley (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

The issue for me isn't whether other teams slip up or not the issue is whether we can win enough of our own games to over come their 4 or 5 point leads (as well as bettering West Ham's results). The results that we have been getting recently and the way that we have been in front of goal suggests that's not likely.
I would be surprised if Chelsea or Leicester finish on less than 66 points based on their remaining fixtures, (there is a good chance that they will get more) for us to match that total of 66 we need to pick up 12 points out of a possible 15, more if they do better than that (plus we have to improve our GD compared to the which is 4/5 worse). And that is without considering West Ham.
For me it's in the 'mathematically possible but unlikely' stage. If we don't beat Man Utd at OT next week that's probably it. IMOThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yep we basically need three teams to slip up as West Ham are in a slightly position to take advantage of any slip ups by Chelsea or Leicester than we are.
Leicester are in a very good position though. Five points ahead of us and they have six games to play compared to our five. So even if they lose the game against Chelsea they will still have the same number of games left as we do.
So really all they need do from six games is get five points less than we can get from five games and they still beat us as their goal difference is better than ours.
Third is almost more needed than Fourth as Chelsea and Arsenal could cause fourth to miss out if they both win their European comps.
We even have to keep watching for Spurs to as even though we say they have been woeful, they are only a point behind us and even Everton are only two ponts behind us but with a game in hand over us.
Your mathematically possible but unlikely comment pretty much nails it. It is out of our hands now as we need to win at least four if not five of our remaining five games and still need others to have slipped up for us to get in.
Just hope we can keep pushing on and go undefeated to the end of the season regardless of where we finish just to get a bit of a non losing mentality back into the squad.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

We've definitely got to go for the win at Old Trafford, and as average as they've looked recently, we're even worse.
I could actually see us picking it up for this game and winning, but we'll probably mess it up against Southampton, West Brom and Burnley anyway.
Hard to have any confidence of us putting a run together when we barely score any goals.

It was totally doable this time last week. Those 2 late goals have killed us.
It is still possible, but not in the sort of form we are in.
No doubt we will make it agonisingly close.Modifying post.

If we had 4 extra points from the last 2 weeks, we would all be confident now. Even 2 extra we'd be saying "keep it going and they might fall"
I don't mind the europa - or even no european footy - for a season to be honest. I think this summer needs to be a proper rest for a lot of the squad and for Jurgen too. Also, we need to make about 4 signings this summer to make up for the inactivity of the last couple of years.

How many points do we see us getting from our last 5 fixtures?
Does 10 points seem reasonable, or is even that optimistic?
Even with that, Leicester would need only 2 wins and for Chelsea 2 wins and a draw would guarantee finishing on more points than Liverpool.
Top 4 is settled imo..

no way we'll be more consistent than either of them over the last five games. Two draws in a week ended our chances of fourth.

It's a very different picture if we had won those 2 games, we'd be 5th level on points with Chelsea and 2 goals behind on GD, we be a team with more confidence and you'd probably be saying it's 2 from us Chelsea and Leicester.Originally posted by frank the tank View Post

As things stand I think even if we go on a decent run (win 4 out of 5) we are probably just missing out because of those two results. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We took 11 point from the last five league games, so about the same would not be an outlandish hope/expectation.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostHow many points do we see us getting from our last 5 fixtures?

But getting that and a CL spot would still require some serious falling apart by the teams above us.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
