Yeah I don't like that as a tactic, bringing on a guy just to take a penalty. Also adds to the pressure when the guy has barely played for us.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah i noticed that, not expected to save them i agree, but having knowledge of the opposing players & reading the play is fairly basic stuff; not blaming Allison totally though, as when martinez was being coached by the arsenal coach at full time, Allison was left to his own devicesOriginally posted by McDermotX View PostDon't EXPECT the keeper to save them really, but I wonder how much preparation is really done.
Only went the right way for Luiz maybe ? Don't recall, but Arsenal's pens looked decent.

was a strange one, as i think Gini is more than capable; but perhaps Klopp wanted to put him in that pressure situation & see how he reacted?Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostYeah I don't like that as a tactic, bringing on a guy just to take a penalty. How much prep can you do for a shootout? You can learn where regular (in game penalty takers) put them and try to feed that info to your keeper, but how many of those guys do you have data on. In a world cup or something you probably have a range of guys who take them for their clubs. Look at our takers only Salah has taken one in a match for us, Fabinho took them at a previous club, but that's probably it.Originally posted by McDermotX View PostDon't EXPECT the keeper to save them really, but I wonder how much preparation is really done.

Yeah I had assumed Mane, Keita and Wijnaldum would all be potential pen takers, so I was a bit surprised Jones took one as wellOriginally posted by S-RED View Postwas a strange one, as i think Gini is more than capable; but perhaps Klopp wanted to put him in that pressure situation & see how he reacted? The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Don't know about that, we played very well I thought, numerous very near moments that come off on another day.
Feel for brewster but I've no idea how a pro striker hits the bar. They've all done it though.

More prep around reading a player in the act really.....never really bought into this 'dossier of peno takers' idea that floated around from some GKs, but its clear that some keepers are better than others for a variety of reasons.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostHow much prep can you do for a shootout? Like I said, I don't expect the keeper to make the save in the shootout, the odds being more weighted towards a miss to account for a blank, or a complete bottle job with the keeper playing the odds with his position.
Without looking back, Arsenal's pens appeared decent, even the little dinked one, but Alisson never got near them at all, and probably only went the right way for Luiz. Ours were decent as well, and TBH, their keeper was probably similar....just unfortunate with Brewster."I will make the boys feel your support"

Hopefully it's a negative experience that he can learn from and it will help him to develop in a better player who won't do it again. I'd rather he do it in the Community Shield that in a game that really matters.Originally posted by BG1973 View PostDon't know about that, we played very well I thought, numerous very near moments that come off on another day.

Feel like it’s odd to bring him on just before the final whistle, for penalties- unless it was someone like Salah/Milner who have a great penalty record for us...
Puts too much pressure on Brewster and sends a bad message to Gini that last years miss hasn’t been forgotten..
Also why was Brewster/Jones taking penalties, but not Mane!I don't tip
