Arsenal had a portfolio on our takers, which can’t have had much in it. There were no penalties saved out of 10. Alisson tried various Tactics to put off the taker, none worked.

Trying to start a narrative that he’s rubbish at saving pens, or that we don’t put in enough research is just bizarre.

Why so defensive Buzzo? The guy is commenting on a forum that he thinks Allison could have perhaps chose the right way a little more often. Certainly valid conversation. It doesn't look like a narrative or witchunt. Merely an observation. It's the whole point of a forum. It's your right to reply but perhaps do it in a less defensive and dismissive way. There seems to be an automatic suggest the poster has an evil alternative motive or narrative set response these days. It'll be the death of this place soon.

For a team which is all about doing extra research and looking for small advantages, that felt a low percentage. Could have been double bluffs from Arsenal, who knows.

In particular I remember the 2nd Arse penalty taker ( I think). The commentator mentioned, before the penalty was taken, that he went to his left for a penalty in their last pre season game on Tue night, and that's the direction he often goes in. Sure enough, he went left again while Alisson went the other way...if the commentator knew, why didn't our keeper?
Good point & something I’ll be watching for in the future. I remember Pepe’s keeping coach did loads of research & gave Reina all the info he needed to get close to making saves. He went downhill once he left.

Dont think its bizarre to ask a question based on what I saw. Not trying to start a narrative about Alisson being crap at penalties. Just thought it interesting enough that he didn't go the right way 4 out of 5 times to mention it...

Only 5 penalties in a pre-season so definitely not enough to form any conclusions either way...

            Thanks Bob.

Not sure where that’s coming from Buzzo. I remember Reina “ guessing “ the right way to dive at least which suggests intel into the takers preferred direction. Discuss or don’t though mate it’s up to you

Your the boss Bob. I’m certainly not suggesting an ‘evil’ alternative motive, I’m prepared to put every post I’ve ever written forward as evidence that this is in no way my ‘set response’.

My point is that neither keeper saved a penalty. In general with the new rules the attacker is massively favoured. Not saving a penalty in a shootout isn’t a sign off anything in my opinion.

Suggesting we don’t do our research, or that Allison is no good at saving pens seems...

              Unfounded.

No offence meant if I’ve caused any

The rules on pens have changed since the Reina days. I just don’t think it’s an issue. But feel free to discuss

True the rules have changed but surely that’s where research into preferred direction comes into it. If a commentator comments that this guy goes left I’d expect our keeper to have the same knowledge. Maybe he did & thought stuff it.

Buzzo, we touched on it yesterday re penalties. It's all weighted in favour of the attacker. I don't think there's much in it either and my response wasn't aimed just at you. Just seems to be a lot of serial defenders whenever something is posted they don't agree with. Anyway, I'm boss of nowt. Not even my own home these days.

I saw an interview with Reina a while back about saving pens, he essentially said that in order to have a chance of saving a pen that's in the corner you have to go early. His success was based on research as to which way a player was likely to go and going early rather than reacting to the run up etc. Now I think since then players have tried more to disguise which way they are going, which probably makes research more important. I saw the Arsenal guys going through something with their keeper, but didn't see if our guys did the same with Alisson. I suspect though that there wasn't much info on most of the takers. Also I think most of the pens yesterday were probably unsavable even if you go the right way
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Less pressure on the penalties too - no crowd - so even further weighted in the attackers favour.

Interesting that the Echo makes the point this morning that Fab doesn’t belong at centre half and that we need to buy one if Klopp doesn’t trust a youngster there. I think we can see from that game yesterday that injuries in key positions could derail our season due to the squad depth. The whole Messi to City thing just makes our inactivity in respect of transfers look odd - so odd that even the Echo are commenting.

I thought Klopp was maybe testing Fabinho at centre half, we were having lots of possession and maybe Fab can be an option at centre half in some games, as a tactical change really.

I think its a way of keeping the front 3 on & getting Naby/Taki on to the pitch, without upsetting the balance too much.

That & Neco isn't quite ready for the 1st team on a consistent basis; we are spoilt by having TAA at RB & him not being fit has definitely stifled they way we attack teams. i think are happy to let Neco have the ball; whereas with Trent, they have to ensure they have good cover, which stretches their two banks of defenders.
