He has & often does but what’s the point? It’s not constructive. People are upset and have a right to be so.

OK the thread title is a bit melodramatic but that’s already been pointed out.

My take? Defence ain’t over but that’s as big a dent as it could’ve taken given the injured party and length of time out, plus people’s ability to recover from these things.

I think its worth stating again that what's getting served up in the league at the moment is a pale imitation of football.

      It's really ****.

It's not been the same since we came back from lockdown.

Not sure where this leaves us regarding winning the league again, but not hearing that it is over, City have their problems too, we'll be having a closer fight now and while this is a setback we might see some players raising their game. Would not rule out us buying a new centre half in January either.

Every set back has made this team raise their game so far, this is a different challenge but the guys will adjust, no doubt in my mind.
          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Agree. Buckle up. We're in for the most bat****-mental and random season ever IMO. This is unprecedented times and there'll be lots more daft results. No one walks away with it this year. I'd say it's nigh on impossible to predict who'll win it, if it even gets finished at all.

Do you mean by us or by everyone?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

VVD is irreplaceable. His injury puts additional demand on all parts of the team. Without him we'll miss 5-7 goals a season and his ridiculous dominance in the air as well as his strength in the 1:1.

But most of all, I think the team will miss his passing. The cross field balls he can play to the front three are a big part of our game and make it harder for opponents to pressure the team.

The good news is that Matip and Gomez are great players in their own right who are comfortable with the ball at feet and both are pacey, decent passers. Matip is also a beast aerially.

IF both could stay fit, there's still a great chance to win the league in my opinion although that's a big if given their injury record.

Whichever way you cut it though, all players have to lift their game now, particularly the forwards and occasional goal scoring midfielders because we will concede more goals now.

Lots of different ways to win matches though and the rest of the team is basically world class so it's doable. No way is it over yet.

His biggest asset is his availability - he never misses games

Could be the making of the likes of Gomez this. His improvement has been huge over the last 2 years, I don’t think anyone was suggesting him as an international class CB until he began as one 2 summers ago. Matip, Fabinho and to a lesser extent Gomez seem quite quiet guys so someone needs to lead. I think it’s time for Gomez to step forward.

The other problem for me is that Virgil has played left side CB for 2.5 years. Who ever has played with him has always played right side. Someone will need to learn that position quickly.

Everybody. Just isn't football as we know it. More akin to watching training matches.

This bollocks about wanting to see "more goals" which is peddled by Sky and the rest is bull****. No one wants to see 4-4s every week. We'd watch basketball or American football is we wanted to see constant scoring.

Football is about nuance; about scoring great goals, but also stopping goals, about building pressure and hunting for that winning goal.

The lack of pressure on players - just turns it into training ground stuff.

It also levels the playing field - as those talented players that do suffer from the pressure of the crowd suddenly try stuff they'd never dream of doing in a full stadium.

So, yeah, this currently getting served up is ****.

And that's not even going into the ****fest of VAR.
