Has happened to a number of teams. Must have happened 10 or more times in the EPL era and a good number of times prior to that

Just googled in for the PL years.

Teams that were on Top at Xmas but that did not win the league are

        Norwich
        Newcastle
        Liverpool
        Man U
        Leeds
        Aston Villa
        Arsenal

Us, Man U, Arsenal and Newcastle have all had it happen more than once in the PL era alone. We have had it happen four times to date since the PL begun.

13 times in total so far during the PL era the team on top on Xmas day has not won the league.

Has it?! Could've sworn it was only us. Maybe we're the most recent then.

TBH I bought into the guff on Sky etc a couple years ago after we were on top at Xmas and then City went on to win it. They were making out that we were the only team to have done it and they were highlighting the year City won it and the year we came second under Rodgers as if those were the only times it happened.

Then found out it was just Carragher talking **** as usual.

But the season is a month later, so the Xmas thing is bollocks TBH; would be better off seeing who was top on 25th Jan & then state this.

Is Xmas 19 games in on a normal season?

The middle of the season is usually around Christmas, I think in most cases the boxing day games are usually match 19 or 20

We have played 23 PL games and play with 2 CBs, (so that would be 46 starts for CBs) VVD, Gomez and Matip have started 20 PL starts between them

Now the city game is done, and the league is pretty much gone

lets just try and freshen it up a bit

For me - stick the two new lads in at CB and give them a run of games

Gove robbo a rest and start the greek lad

move henderson/fab back into midfield and start with jones - rest/rotate with gini and thiago

Without Jota, front three doesn't give us much options - all three look shot but even then the drop off to origi/shaqiri is to big

It might look a bit of risk throwing in effectively three new defenders but it's not working as we are so we might as well try something new.

I think that this sums up our season

Games where at least one of VVD, Gomez or Matip played 90 mins:
                          PL 12 Pts 26

Games where at least one of VVD, Gomez or Matip started (in all 3 games not included above Matip went off after 45 or 60 mins)
                          PL 15 Pts 31

Games where none of VVD, Gomez or Matip started
                          PL 8 pts 9

Games where none of VVD, Gomez or Matip played a full 90mins ( in all cases Matip went off)
                          PL 11 pts 14

I think it shows the problem, without at least one of the 3 CBs we started the season with we have been ****e. If we continued the points record we had when at least one of them played 90 mins, we'd be on 49/50 points now

...makes you wonder why then that Klopp and his team insist on playing CMs in the CB position... even when we now have two new CBs.
Has to slot in Kabak and/or Davies in the next run of games and move Hendo and Fab back to their proper positions. If we still get beat then it's about the attitude, confidence or fatigue of the team - and not the fact that players are constantly played out of position which disrupts the style and flow of our play.

Would also be interesting to see if the drop-off in attacking play (chances created, shots/shots on target) is affected by the lack of proper CBs playing too.. as that would be the obvious link.

Fab, Hendo and one of Gini/Thiago/Curtis depending on who we're playing.

For instance, against Everton I'd have Curtis for the local passion.
Thiago will get a red in thirty seconds and Gini's been off the boil of late.

Not sure who I'd stick in for Leicester...
