      Nowhere near good enough.

Worrying how poor our shape was / is out of possession compared to Madrid. That's before even considering their quality in possession compared to ours.

At 2-1 it was game on, yet we chased and left ourselves wide open about 3 times in 5 minutes. Ridiculous stuff from either the leaders on the pitch of Jurgen himself. Naive is one word. I can think of a few others too.

It doesn’t change it that much we aren’t reconfiguring the genome. Just tweak it a bit. Salah through the middle? We used to mix it up a bit even last season, but now we look a bit predictable at times.

Midfield got schooled first half tonight.

Would be nice if Hendo (remember him) was fit for the second leg?

We did well to get out of there with that score. It probably should have been much worse.

They'll defend deep and hit us on the counter next week. Phillips and Kabak will be having sleepless nights all this week at the prospect of Benzema, Asensio and Vinícius running at them.

We've proven time and time again that we can't break down teams that sit deep this season.

This Real team won't crumble like Barca did a couple of season back.

We did get schooled but Klopp has previous for putting faith in players who are under-performing (see the Karius thread). Gini was better after the sub but I also question a captain on the way out. Having Henderson back would be brilliant.

We rely heavily on a system to get the best out of every player in every position and the two are inter-related. Klopp has said over and over again it's drilled in incessantly. I'm not sure right now is the time to change our system. I think the reason both our backs and our forwards are playing so badly is that we're not playing the same way we did last season.

I’m normally a glass half full but that’s it for me. Roll on next year. Bring back that 3 week break FFS

I think Real are a good side, with players who are well equipped to retain the ball and offer experience in areas of the pitch that can be vital.

But they're not much more than that.

Looking at Ferdinands analysis, absolutely spot on. CBs all over the shop and zero communication with Trent

It’s hard not to think everything has originated from that issue. The control they give us in and out of possession.

Other things have played a factor, even the crowds Post league win fatigue it’s been a perfect storm, but as soon as big Virgil went down we all new it was going to be trouble. The guy is a Titan.

By the way, our 'brand' of football is utter ****e, we don't move through the lines well and it's hard to identify and real patterns of play. This season has been a disaster. Please end.

Madrid are a good side and they move the ball quickly but ultimately it was us shooting ourselves in the foot again. Phillips, Trent and Ali all at fault for what were relatively soft goals. What Madrid don’t like is pressure on their midfield and pace in behind and yet that is supposed to be our MO yet we didn’t do either.

Trent and Robbo look shadows of themselves and Mane.......what a drop off from him - not sure how many times he fell over and lost the ball. Felt sorry for Nat and Kabak - both a bit out of their depth and exposed a few times - Kabak gave away an absolute stonewall pen btw.

Naby - even I’m giving up on him but Gini was as bad in the first half. V unlikely we go through but you never know - we’ve come back from worse situation ps than this. I thought we had a good shot so the “performance” was v disappointing.......sigh

Couldn't agree more. They were there to be got at, we didn't. Nervy and off the pace. 3 mistakes from 3 players leading to goals in one game, that's ridiculous. Just shows they were nowhere near.

Liverpool need 2 goals at Anfield vs Madrid... Liverpool have only scored one goal at Anfield in 2021.
