The club would be stupid even offering him a contract. He should prove he deserves one or sell him off in january. We're no where near ruthless with these players. They coast, happy to collect heaps of money, if they screw up oh well I'll just play again next time, no fear there. Should have sold him and kept Nat. Who if I may add, is the best defender in his current league. You know all those headers konate screws up? Nat would have sent each one into orbit!

Been saying it for a while he's not a world's top 5 defender as people claim. He's capable of great performances, but when he isn't great he's ****. He's either giving 9/10 performances or 4-5/10 performances, would be better with someone who can give consistent 7 or 8 out of 10 performances.
The other thing with him is he looks out of his depth when VVD isn't next to him, he's now 26 years old so should just be coming to his peak, he's won the PL with us, won/played in multiple cup finals, played in a CL final, been part of a WC winning squad he's an experienced player who has played at the top end of the game. He really should be doing better IMOThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Nail on the head. Konate has become seriously inconsistent. I would be playing Gomez in his position in every league game until January.
Gomez does tend to need a couple games to get his match sharpness back, but once he does he is very much that 7/10 type steady Eddie defender and pairs very well with VVD.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

That's exactly what should have been but he's not reliable injury wise!Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostNail on the head. Konate has become seriously inconsistent. I would be playing Gomez in his position in every league game until January.

However, he's probably in his last year so that would give him extra incentive to work hard alongside VvD to obtain a new contract with us...He proabably won't be looking for half of what that gob****e is looking for from us!Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

It’s a shame that we’re so light at CB that we can’t drop him.
I don’t know whether it’s Madrid being on his mind, fitness or general poor form but you’re right - he either puts in a world class performance or he’s a liability and it rarely seems that there’s any in between with Konate.
Sort of done with him now but Slot doesn’t trust Gomez and there’s no way you can rely on him to string a run of games together so we’re stuck with Konate until at least January.

Even more reason to be playing him when he is not injured then.
If an injury is to happen, let it be on the field of play after getting game time out of him rather than on the training ground after weeks of warming the bench.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Guehi was our most important transfer of the summer and we screwed it up by having to have the marquee signings, the Galactico's.Originally posted by vlahka View PostWe took too long. Should have hired him long ago and not wasted out time and money with isak.
As for Konate, he said the other day he hopes to announce a decision about his future "very soon". I took very soon to be January 1st 2026 and we all know what that means. If he was after a new contract with us, he certainly isn't playing for it. He should be playing out of his skin but he just seems completely disinterested.

Maybe.
The flip side of that is that he is playing very well in a settled team that he has been part of for years. Easier to look good in a team that is playing well and where all the moving parts seem to compliment each other.
He could have come to us and been left hung out to try by our slow turgid passing and lack of cohesion between the midfield and backline.
That said, had he joined us, I don't think he would be as out of form as Konate seems to be these days.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Of course but maybe he quickens it up at the back as he's more accomplished on the ball than Konate, who looks like he's going to fall over in posession. I'll wait for someone to post a stat of Konate's passing and how amazing it apparently is vs actual realityOriginally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostMaybe.

Fact being Guehi has some technical quality, mobile CB that is good on the ball & has more game intelligence than Ibou. If we had him, Konate could have been taken out of the firing line months ago & Gomez slots in at RB which frees up our players of the season and pressing engine. In saying that, maybe Slot wouldn't even play him

Don't think anyone is going to post any stats on Konate that will counter what the eye is seeing tbh.
Konate, in my opinion, has checked out mentally. Now whether that is down to grief, down to knowing he has a move away on the horizon, some personal stuff or a mix of those things who can tell.
Not sure if Guehi has more game intelligence than an in form Konate, but that in form Konate has not turned up this season at all save for maybe the game against Real.
No arguement that it might not be difficult to improve upon Konate this season though. Which makes it all the more galling that Gomez (very much proven as a partner for VVD when fit) does not get game time and Leoni got injured.
Think bringing in a senior CB in January is a no brainer, but no matter who we get we will still need to fix the disconnect between the back line and the midfield and think that comes down to tactics and set up more than simply bringing in one quality player (not that I am against getting that level of quality in)I don't hate people. Once again Doc, I am in full agreement with ya.
I reckon Konate has his move organized and he will be signing on Jan 1st. If he gets injured between now and then he could lose out on a ****in wedge and a half.
I might be wrong and he signs a new deal, but the evidence suggests that he is offski. I think he is playing within himself. That corner that he gave away against Forest at the weekend, leading to their first goal, looked like he was playing within himself. ****in kicked it out for a corner from about 35 yards whereas prime Ibou is getting there a second or two faster and either clearing it or whacking it into the stand for a throw.
But he played ****in amazing then against Real Madrid??? Look at what I can do fellas!!!
Big pity that Leoni got injured.
I'd like to see us sign Guehi in Jan if possible but I reckon that the reasons palace pulled the plug on the move on the deadline day are still the same - the only difference being that Liverpool will want to spend a hell of a lot less than 35m on him in Jan. Wouldn't mind seeing us try to sign someone else too......maybe someone like Andreas Christiansen from Barca. His contract is up in the summer so might be a deal to be done.
