I would pay £300k a week to the 24/25 Konate so I have no doubt that we will see him back soon as this season has been been a misnomer for all our players for obvoius reasons.
A lot of people are too quick to write players off after a few bad performances as they tend to forget to ask why are we seeing bad ones from our top players. They all lost a good friend & teammate who died in horrible circumstances...that can **** you up for months on end, I should know as been through similar experiences in my life. All these players have is just each other, their family & whatever support they have from fans while having to put up with keyboard assholes putting them down at every moment.
All it takes for everyone of us is one question...Are you ok?
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

We were prepared to pay Guehi £300k a week I would be surprised if we were willing to give Konate that.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It is not a case of writing off a player, more a case of what happens to the overall pay structure if a non star player is suddenly bumped up to star player wages, then other players will want parity.

As said earlier, Szobo has been outstanding more often than not, so if Konate gets 300k, then why would Szobo, who has been more consistent, not want parity or better?

Of course the 300k figure might just be made up internet waffle, but for me that number, at our club, is for the very best at the club.

Makes more sense to me to offer Konate a nice bump on his basic wage, say a 50k increase per week and then offer a number of performance and result based incentives to further bump up his wage.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I hate this hot take of he's not worth xk/wk just because its a big number. We had the same with Guehi, same basic number ****wittery/outrage of a massive pay packet.

Yeah, let him go on a free, and sign Schlotterbeck instead at £40-60m on £250/wk. Or A. N. Other. Replacing Konate with a comparable player on the market is going to cost northwards of £20m a year. In this case min. £24m/year.

The maths rarely stack up in replacing a player leaving on a free vs. buying in a new player.

So if Konate wants around £16m a year. Good luck to him. Just don't be **** when you do.

In reality though we might end up paying his replacement 150 to 200k on top of a huge, say 50m transfer fee.

As long as it is heavily incenticised then happy days.

If Leoni can make a comeback too, then 4 cbs going into next season of Virg, konate, Leoni and Jacquet looks good. A utility guy who can play back there as well - either that Gertrude fella.on loan at Sunderland or the celta vigo guy on a free, and we are ok. Just need a left back replacement for robbo then who will surely look to leave.

Konate must stay. When his head is tuned in, he's brilliant.

I agree. There’s going to need to be quite a few players moving on so having a settled back line will certainly help the transition.

I dont know. We got rid of a defender who was not only top class but got us into the CL single handedly. Meanwhile konate has cost us many games this season by being by and large garbage. He's staying on my transfer list.

300k a week then becomes the benchmark for any 1st team plyer not just our elites, who tgen want 400k a week.......

Need to be.realistic. He is not a 300k player.

But he has leverege and it is probably cheaper than signing a top defender to replace. Maybe we should test his resolve a bit. Madrid obviously were not buying

[Hugo Delom/Loic Tansi, L’Équipe] - Konate wants his future resolved before FIFA World Cup. Extension talks were on hold, however, they have since resumed, and L’Équipe understands that the most likely scenario is one in which the defender extends his current deal.

Liverpool and Konaté have never been closer to striking an agreement. There are, however, details to iron out, and in the meantime, Spanish clubs are attempting to scupper Liverpool’s renewal plans. Real Madrid have been touted as an admirer. The likelihood, however, is that the Frenchman stays on Merseyside, and he aims to make his decision within the next few weeks."

While he’s not been at his best this season he is still a very good player. With two very talented young CB’s at the club to really challenge him for a spot might help. Plus it could save some much needed transfer funds for midfield and attack. Having four of VVD, Konate, Leoni and Jacquet would be good.

Pure speculation but maybe the turn around in discussions could be knowing someone new is about to come in.

Well from a negotiation stand point, he's done himself zero favours. He has been absolutely awful this season. Generally speaking he's a good 1 vs 1 CB and he's a physical specimen but he's also clumsy, rash, makes alot of mistakes, not the smartest CB and average on the ball. If he's looking for silly money, good luck as he's not worth it.
