Liverpool believe FIFA has no basis to prevent Premier League clubs from selecting Brazilian players this weekend

Liverpool believe FIFA has no basis with which to ban Premier League clubs from selecting South American players who were refused permission to go on international duty this weekend.
On Wednesday it was revealed that FIFA had invoked Article 5 to block Premier League clubs from selecting Brazilian players who they had refused to release for the latest round of international fixtures.
FIFA applied Article 5 to enforce the restriction period of September 10-14 at the request of the Brazilian Football Association, which would see the players miss this weekend's round of Premier League fixtures and also Tuesday's Champions League matches.Liverpool believe FIFA has no basis with which to ban Premier League clubs from selecting South American players
Liverpool would be one of the hardest hit by these restrictions with Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho all currently unavailable for the trip to face Leeds on Super Sunday, who themselves would have Raphinha unable to play.
Sky Sports News understands Liverpool believe that, due to the circumstances surrounding the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the quarantine measures players would have had to face upon their return to the UK had they travelled, FIFA has no foundation with which to stop the players from being selected by their clubs this weekend.
The Brazilian players who were not released for the World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Peru also include Manchester United's Fred, Thiago Silva at Chelsea as well as Manchester City's Ederson and Gabriel Jesus.
It is also understood that the Premier League are continuing to have dialogue with the relevant bodies over the matter.

I guess ourselves and Leeds are in the fortunate position of playing on Sunday, whereas all the other sides with players involved (for Brazil at least) play on Saturday so we at least get to see what the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd do and what if any fall out seems to be happening after those games...The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Maybe clubs should start billing International set ups for any injuries or illnesses players get when on international duty and have the FA of that country pay the players wages in full until the player is able to play for his club again.
If the FAs want to dictate terms to the clubs when it comes to getting to use the players, then let the clubs dictate financial terms back if they cannot use the players thanks to something that happens on the FAs time.
Might suddenly see a lot of international set ups become more club friendly.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think that there is a scheme in place where by clubs are compensated for players wages if that player is injured on international duty, but if I remember correctly this is from FIFA funds/insurance rather than from individual FA's themselves, I believe that the reason for this is that small countries may not be able to afford the costs of they had one World class player and the financial cost might prevent them picking that player.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostMaybe clubs should start billing International set ups for any injuries or illnesses players get when on international duty and have the FA of that country pay the players wages in full until the player is able to play for his club again.

So as I understand it there is no risk on the national team's behalf. This is probably why they are happy to pick players when they have knocks or minor injuries as the next international break is likely a month or so away so it is the club's problem with little to no accountability for them as even if the player is injured for a while they don't pick up the tab.
The rewards are heavily weighted in the national sides favour and there is no risk or accountability for the country, which seems wrong as the clubs are the ones who take all the risk.Last edited by Exiled_red; 09-09-21, 03:55 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

6 points up, surely? 2 wins and a draw instead of 2 defeats and a draw?Originally posted by ukfootballfan101 View PostResults last season vs this season:-
Last Season:-
LFC v Burley (0-1)
LFC v Chelsea (0-1)
Leeds v LFC (1-1)
So, we're 7 points up on our results last season.
Norwich are obviously newly promoted so we can't compare that one, but we won 2 drew 1 against the relegated teams away from home.
Norwich were promoted as Champions so the team that fits that criteria for last season was Leeds. Alternatively you could consider the highest place relegated team instead so that would be Fulham which was a draw away from home.Football without Origi is nothing

Good start to the season, our first 11 are excellent and we really should be a full house with the Chelsea game. The worry is us once again leaving ourselves short in a particular position. We are stacked defensively now after leaving ourselves short last season and getting punished for it. Attack wise, we were short before the window and we got nothing in. Now Elliot is out for a long time & already Firmino and Minamino are out with just 4 games in. It's a worry and will have to be addressed in January.
