Is it though? The reason? It could be. It might be a contributory factor of course. But I think this whole contract thing has distracted him and he's lost focus, on top of the extra games. I am surprised he seems to be the one hooked the least given he's played so much and often offers nowt. Surely he requires the rest?Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostIt’s the reason that Salah isn’t in the form he was in in the 1st half of the season. And he was better than De Bruyne at that point.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Yep, Alcon took it out of Mo big time. A slog for him chasing about without getting the ball for a month, extra time in every round and an agonising defeat in the final. He was on fire until then.
We’ve managed well given all of this only dropping 4 points this year.
We can’t give much more than we are, 2 defeats and only 8 draws in a season is incredible. City will keep spending money monopolising domestically, unless there is more competition, until they win the CL.
The League almost boils down to the head to head matches between us and them.Modifying post.

The next AFCON is scheduled 23 June – 23 July 2023, so he's not going to get much rest after next season and his preseason will be royally ****ed up. Added to the 'psychological impact' it could also have on him, looks like the best course of action is to sell now for big money and reinvest in the squad, and not have this ticking time bomb on the horizon.

The contract thing has been going all season and it definitely wasn’t bothering him before January. The drop off in form has directly coincided with AFCON.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostIs it though? The reason? It could be. It might be a contributory factor of course. And he doesn’t offer nowt, he’s still neck and neck with Sadio for goal involvements since the pair came back. He’s just not putting up the world beating, potentially title winning numbers, he was pre AFCON.
Yeah he needs a rest, but we’re (were) going for a quadruple, so what can you do? I think we’ve managed him as well as possible..

He’s going to have a break this summer and then a mid season break for the World Cup. He’ll have every chance of being fresh throughout next season.Originally posted by BootRoom View PostThe next AFCON is scheduled 23 June – 23 July 2023, so he's not going to get much rest after next season and his preseason will be royally ****ed up. No World Cup for Mo, nor Diaz that could work in our favour given the (quite frankly) ridiculous scheduling of it in December.Originally posted by BootRoom View PostThe next AFCON is scheduled 23 June – 23 July 2023, so he's not going to get much rest after next season and his preseason will be royally ****ed up. The next tournament is after next season, between 22/23 and 23/24. He could be shattered both physically and mentally again before we've even kicked a ball of the season after next (23/24).Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostHe’s going to have a break this summer and then a mid season break for the World Cup. He’s got 2 good breaks coming up before then. I don’t think 23/24 will be anywhere as demanding of him as this season.Originally posted by BootRoom View PostThe next tournament is after next season, between 22/23 and 23/24. I'm not suggesting he will be playing continuously from now until the next tournament; I'm suggesting he'll play the remainder of the post World Cup Premier League campaign, then head off on international duty until the AFCON tournament concludes (if they get that far) 23 July 2023. Hence going into the season after next (23/24), he could be coming back shattered physically and mentally again, and not get a proper pre-season under his belt which might be a major hindrance (and opportunity for excuse-making antics) for the season (23/24) ahead, while draining massive resources from the club (presuming the contract impasse has been resolved by then). Avoiding this potential problem can be added to the "pro column" of cashing in now and reinvesting, IMHO.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostHeÂ’s not going to be playing continuously between now and season after next, so why should he be shattered both physically and mentally by then?
