Brentford away PL thread

This. Everyone raves about his talent....we're playing Brentford FFS. He's 20 now. If he cant perform against Brentford in an otherwise full strength side then he's not going to make it.

Or, you play Minamino in behind the front 3 with Fab and Hendo holding.

Jones starting with Henderson and Fabinho would be my choice, but Minamino in there would be interesting.

Let him and Jota (if Jota starts in the central attacking slot) switch positions at will throughout the game. Think that is sort of the position Minamino played in for RB as well.

That goes against our style of play and makes no sense to me. Our midfield three have very specific roles in the balance of our team:

- The deepest in the 6 position
- The right sided 8 gets quite high and involved with both Mo and Trent
- The left sided 8 is more of the controller and plays deeper - it’s very different from the right sided 8. Hendo played there vs Chelsea and I thought he struggled because his inclination is to attack and vacate space

Fab as the 6 with Hendo as his back up. Hendo as the right sided 8 with Elliot as his back up but now maybe Ox. Thiago as the left sided 8 with Naby as his back up.

Milner and Jones can fill in as either 8

Maybe Taki could play as the right sided 8 because he gets higher but Toney pulls out to that side and I’d worry about him covering Trent when they try to overload his side. Salzburg played a box midfield with Taki as one of the advanced guys so not exactly the same.

Ahh did not realise they were going with three CBs. In the bits of the game I saw Robertson was bombing down the left flank and Tierney was what looked like a LB slot.

Guessing that when Scotland attack Tierney pushes out to the LB slot to cover the space left by Robertson going forward and/or goes there to support or overlap with Robertson and then when under pressure Tierney tucks in as part of the three CBs and Robertson goes deeper to LB instead of LWB maybe?

Good way for Scotland to get their two best players (am assuming Roberston and Tierney are their best players) into the same team.

Yep, the entire formation is set up to ensure KT and Robbo can both play. It does work but is pretty negative against smaller teams.

Well crap. Got the Kick off time wrong. Thought we were on at 15:00.

No doubts Milner will start but I do like the look of Timmy at LCM against low block sides, both lads bombing forward and back relentlessly. You could also argue that Robbo & Timmy will occupy the same spaces so that's why it'll never happen.

Brentford average about 7 shots on goal in their 5 matches played and that's without playing any top sides. They are a huge side, very physical, very well organised and hard working.. I can only see them sitting deep and absorbing crosses in the box. I've been quite impressed with them so far. IMO the more guile and craft we have vs these the better. We've seen the same problem last season were teams are happy to sit deep and hope that maybe they might nick a goal on a set piece.

A midfield 3 of Milner, Fab and Henderson while not particularly inspiring is probably the best option with VVD and Matip back in at CB, Mo, Mane and Jota to start with Bobby hopefully back on the bench.
Need experience and physicality for this one.
