Aye, current form (unless bad) is a terrible barometer to measure the capabilities of a team.

Let's instead focus on the one poor spell in over three years that had absolutely no mitigating factors.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Yeah, let’s use a prediction model (for some reason) that was shown to be unreliable as recently as last season. I’m not a big fan of doing so myself.

If only we could allocate each team points depending on the results of the games they have played. We could then group them together in a 'chart' of sorts, and we could use that as a barometer of current form...

Reading back I see what you are sayingm but as ever you are looking at things with an overly negative perspective. Of course we may not win the League but what else do we look to for predictions, and last season was an exceptionally challenging one, so I would have it as an outlier.

Overall, I think we look in good shape, I think we are playing well and will be in the mix this season.

              My worry is the AFCON.

We’re doing alright. I don’t think trying to project forward to next summer is useful for non-gamblers.

And why is that different to you predicting we'll be lucky to finish 4th using your own method?

And what has changed from pre-season when your version of current form (which was also picked apart by Pepe at the time) was representative of what might happen and historical data was to be ignored?

I think he has defended quite well this season and find some of the criticism quite baffling.
The right sided midfielder is supposed to cover back and Hendo did t cover himself in glory tbh.....we was awol a few times. I saw a very interesting thread on how he is “holding back” in his duels - he might be carrying a knock and minding himself.

I’ve gotten grief for my opinion of Hendo but I think he’s been just ok this season although he did put in a great cross for Jota

Interesting, it's something I'll maybe look out for in future games.

Don't normally pay much attention to Hendo during games as I'll always expect he'll do a good job, whereas I'll be watching the likes of Elliot, Naby, Jones more closely. But tbf, I always check the stats afterwards and sort by highest and he hasn't really popped up yet.

IMO, This season will be defined by midfield problems as opposed to defensive issues of last. Unless we address it in January but given the very specific requirements of our midfielders, I don't even think trading in January will be soon enough.

                        How's that for negativity.

You don’t see a difference between a qualitative assessment of the of the squad in comparison with our peers and a pseudo mathematical projection of our points finish based on an extrapolation from half a dozen results?

Your second quote is a bit weird, it was critique of the assumption that the likes of Mane would start this season in peak form despite having been out of form. Was I wrong?

Qualitative in what way? Ironically you seem to be focused on half a dozen results last season (we won 5 from 6 away in that same period) which will just never happen again in a normal season.

That post was nothing to do with Mane. Before you were corrected you were arguing that our current form (based on last season) suggested we would struggle this year. Even though that was factually incorrect (https://www.est1892.co.uk/forums/sho...97#post3726997), you are now arguing the exact opposite.

My memory is **** these days, so maybe I'm wrong, but as much as I always disagreed with you, I'm sure you used to be consistent in your negativity, which I actually liked, believe it or not.

To summarise, I wasn't trying to be a dick or point score. We've both been on here long enough to know what each other is like. I was just surprised by your comment as I didn't think Jaco's post was in any way controversial or even optimistic ( I have us scoring much higher than that ) and I felt what you said contradicted what you argued preseason, which is unlike you.
