Mo is going to gather himself, come back and know he has to deliver this season. He will be massively motivated.

And Sadio has achieved something that will hopefully give him massive confidence. The pen to win it was a peach.

You have to feel for Salah, the style of football from Egypt meant he was feeding off scraps for the entire tournament. Hopefully he comes back into the fold and relishes the sheer volume of chances he gets when playing for us.

Poor Mane pacing up and down during the shootout like the condemned man waiting for his turn. Player of the tournament too.

What's that now, 6 points out of 6, reaching a cup final and progression in the FA cup in the 'post Salah era'

More seriously though, I don't think it would be wise to rush Salah back (assuming the losing finalist is indeed due back a day earlier than the winning finalist); apart from being subbed after 69 mins vs Guinea-Bissau he's played every minute of the tournament (let's not quibble about being subbed off after 120+3 vs. Morocco) including the last 4 games going to extra time - that's extra time adding up to a complete game and a half, not to mention the draining effect of being involved in 3 penalty shoot-outs. We should have enough to see off Leicester without both Salah and Mane and get them back involved vs. Burnley on the 13th Feb at the earliest.

Incredible Egypt got to the final at all. They are truly awful to watch. They don't even manage to adapt to play to Salah's strengths. He was lost out there and I felt for him.

That's the problem tho, Egypt's opponents can mark Salah out of the game as he is the main threat. When he plays for us, if you double up on Mo you run the risk of Sadio or Jota tearing you a new one. We can play to Salah's strength as he has the team around him to compliment his skills, not many other teams can boast that. It's a reason why Salah will not be as successful anywhere else, not many teams can boast a forward line with as many quality players as ours.

I didn't really watch any of the ACN other than a few mins here and there and a couple of penalty shootouts. But I got the impression Egypt's tactics were to play for penalties. As almost all of their games followed the same script
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If anyone is in any doubt just how much winning the AFCON means to Mane

Sadio Mane says winning Senegal's first Africa Cup of Nations is the highlight of his career.

He scored the winning penalty in the shootout against Egypt, having seen a first-half spot-kick saved as Sunday's game ended 0-0 after extra time.

The West Africans had previously lost two Nations Cup finals, including a 1-0 defeat by Algeria three years ago.

"It's the best day of my life and the best trophy of my life," the 29-year-old Liverpool forward said.

"I won the Champions League and some [other] trophies but this is the special one for me. This is more important for me.

"I am happy for myself, my people and all of my family."

                      Sell him.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Makes sense, I feel like for Mane it’s the biggest one, because it brings so much joy to the people of his country. The amount he gives back to Senegal is really incredible. Seen a post online saying he was paying for a load of Senegal fans’ airfare for them to go watch the AFCON games, if they couldn’t afford it themselves. Not sure how true it is, but certainly wouldn’t surprise me, given some of the other charitable work he does for them, off the pitch.

Well happy for him, fair play. Sickener to see Mo so gutted, but it had to be one of them. Before the game I didn’t care who won, but after mane missed the penalty, I wanted Senegal to win it, cos of what it might have done to his confidence if he felt he cost them it. And overall they deserved it more. Egypt winning it with 3 consecutive penalty shootouts, would have been a bit much.
                        I don't tip

Can’t fault him. He’s been a Liverpool player for 6 years, but he’s been a Senegal fan his whole life. Totally natural that this is the most special one to him.

                              ...to Marseille, seemingly.

I saw the Sadio interview....he spoke more than I have heard him say in all his years at LFC. Still made up for him though.
