I dont think we (our midfield) was bad by any means, but there was not much difference between us on the day.

It was functional v functional, and could have gone either way.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

i thought we lost control a little after Hendo and Naby went off. Played well though overall.

Mendy was having a great game and had recently won the ACN on pens must be frustrated at having played so well but not have the opportunity to win the game for them and missing out on a winners medal. Similarly bringing Kepa on just for the pens puts pressure on him to save one at least, it's like bringing someone on to take a pen, you are effectively saying 'you have one job...' I don't think it does much for either of them or the team spirit
It’s a weird mentality. It shows a lack of trust in your player, Mendy was outstanding in the game, how can you not trust him for the shootout?

I know football is a massive business with every angle analysed to find a percentage point advantage etc. Tuchel‘a management team had a meeting; ‘let’s breakdown the goalkeeper role, then allocate one keeper as a specialist in the field of penalty saves, then deploy that via a last minute sub, we’re cutting edge geniuses, well done us’. A clear case of over analysing and trying to apply too much logic to a situation that is dominated by emotions and instinct.

I wonder if Klopp actually following through with playing Kelleher got in their heads a bit?

It was a mad decision. So sweet to see it back fire

Tore my calf when Kepa missed. Just hobbled across London to get the train. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Extra curious since Kepa was the one they wanted to sub off for the penalties in their last League Cup Final.

Except he refused to come off. And he didn’t win that one either.

Ah so it wasn't actually a foul then.

Chelsea's passing game was much better than ours. Kovacic was outstanding for them.

I don’t think it was much better. We had 55% possession. Created more chances had more shots on goal.

                            Kovacic is good though.

A lot of their good play was off side being played on which is something VVD was talking about. The extra miles and the potential for getting injured in a play that was clearly offside.

The only tight one was Lukakus goal.

There were two I think, Havertz had a close one too.

The only reason I can think that Tuchel would go to Kepa for the shootout is that the prick had spent the whole week preparing for it. Rough on Mendy, but turned out well for us.
