Here is a question for you.

What do we do about the insane levels of entitlement from fans, which has become normalised in the past ten years?

Every year, there can be one winner of each trophy. Last year we won two out of four, and came second in the other two. And people still complained. A lot. That is mental.

Spurs fans booed their team off at half time. They are Spurs and started the day in third place. What exactly are they expecting?

Whilst there is a major issue in the way that football clubs are owned, I don't think there is enough debate on the seriously unhealthy levels of fan entitlement that has become the norm.

No one should expect to win the league year after year. And it should be expected that all teams go through periods of transition. City have distorted not just club finances but fan perception too. To the point where a lot of people regularly do a bunch of mental gymnastics to justify their implicit support for things which they would in no way have considered otherwise.

The reasons to stop following football grow by the day. And I for one, don't intend to watch a minute of the World Cup.
    Oh I don't know.

If one of the human right abusing states bought the club, I would then grow to see the club as just an extension of that state.

With a club a person follows and had done so for years it would probably be akin to the break up of a relationship in many ways.

But if the club as I knew it was gone, the interest in it would hopefully eventually go completely as well.

Unfortunately that level of entitlement you speak of is not just a footy thing, and instead is a societal issue.

It is all I want it, I want it now and I do not want to put in any effort to get it.

Maybe. But it's definitely a massive problem in football, and it's getting worse.

I would be torn as won't be easy to ignore the club that I have followed since 1977 but would have to take that stance against any murderous regime & give my full support to my local team, Bohemians here in Dublin.

Your poor *******. Nobody should be forced to do that.

I, on the other hand, could just drive 30 minutes and continue to enjoy the free flowing beautiful football served up by Cork City FC.

Taking a few liberites there with words like free flowing and football.

Though I am a member of FORAS (Cork City is fan owned) and am fascinated how it would translate onto a much bigger stage in a league like the PL (I know it is in operation in other countrues)

Interesting thread, can you imagine if big oil bought us, other fans would have a field day & we would called all hypocrites given how outspoken we've been about the other big spenders.

Tricky situation, personally I wouldn't want it but we do need to spend to compete. Anyone that has accumulated that amount of wealth has stepped on necks to get there, don't think there are many nice guys at that level of wealth.

I wrote a similar post on the exact same subject, entitlement, when many fans were saying FSG should sell the club if they can't meet Salah's demands. Unsurprisingly, many of those fans were also saying a month or so that FSG ****ed up by giving in to Salah.

I didn't bother posting at the time, but glad someone has.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I’ll bet every club had threads like this full of idealists. How easy will it be to cut ties? To divorce. To not care when previously you cared a lot (yeah you bet we did).

The idealist in me says that will be it. The realist in me says the kids are vested in this, how easy will it be to convince them (that said they are fully clued up in such things). We go and watch Hearts already so I guess Od try to focus on that.

                        I hope it doesn’t happen.

The game is already ****ed and this news just confirms it. You’ve got to cheat to compete.
i also take my kids to see our local amateur team

50 of us there on Saturday to see a glorious 1 - 1 draw

Modern day football fans have zero to very little loyalty to the club they follow and certainly have no known history or knowledge of their club… football will have been totally revolutionized once the tradition generation of fans has gone.. or until the money goes away from football maybe and hopefully then real football fans can get their sport and past time back…

It's a difficult one, I feel that some dodgy Human right violating owners running the club would be a red line. But it would be really difficult to walk away from. I am 40 years old and LFC has been a big part of my life as long as I can remember it feels like being a fan is part of who I am so walking away would be like part of me dying.

I would hope that LFC wouldn't attract that type of owner with the general socialist type views of (many of the) supporters and the association of people like Shankly and Klopp who have spoken out about such things, and the fact that LFC have always tried to do things the right way. But ultimately it comes down to business and fans have little say in it. I have no doubt some of the FSG out brigade would be very happy to have those types of owners
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
