The stuff about Trent being bad positionally is extremely exaggerated.

He’s always been asked by Klopp to go into positions that leave a hole at the back if counter attacks happen.

It’s a known risk and a strategy that management have asked him to execute, whether it was overlapping Salah constantly in klopps early seasons or like now where he is asked to come into a central area.

I don’t think he’d have any problems like that if he was told to play as a sitting midfielder and I think he could add something Fabinho doesn’t have, which is the odd run forward when the time is right.

Gerrard was not always very disciplined but when rodgers told him to play as a deeper playmaker, he did it excellently.

Players can continually learn new things, they aren’t idiots and they should be able to with all the free time on their hands relative to the average person.

Bent. Brentford like a vintage Wimbledon/Stoke hybrid with added diving.

4th game in 10 days with a bit of a thin squad, in terms of top quality with Thiago and Firmino out and Jota and Hendo carrying knocks. It’s a great result really an against a nemesis side.

It might be worth a go, but it'd affect the current structure of the team, as Trent moves to create a box shape with Fabinho at his side, and today, Jones and Gakpo ahead. Usually, it's Trent, Fabinho, and the two central mids.

If we move Trent into midfield, the set-up in the middle of the park suddenly changes.

It'll be interesting to see what Klopp does next season, but personally, I think he's settled on it.

With regard to the game today, we did okay. Not the best, but given the turnaround between the games, and the stage of the season, it's all about getting points on the board without looking utterly horrific, which we did. 6 wins on the bounce. Couldn't ask for much more.

Yea but there’s no reason Klopp couldn’t start Fabinho and Trent as a double pivot and then have a more conventional right back.

I think it would work quite well if there was an Andy Robertson on the right side.

You’d sacrifice one of the more advanced AMs yes but if the games under control, Trent is great going forward.

Tough mental performance, we are progressively improving. The ref as usual is absolute ****.

There are definitely signs we are getting that strong mentality back and players are looking reinvigorated. Thought we did ok defensively. For all the good positions they got into they didn’t create anything of note, only 5 attempts on goal. And Tony was kept very quiet. We look open but felt we covered those spaces ok today. It’s a work in progress and after a full preseason and new players I feel we’ll be more comfortable. Can’t be easy to make such a big change late in the season having been so set in one style for so long.

How did Ali get booked for time wasting? We’ve all seen goalkeepers taking longer from minute one and never get booked or booked in stoppage time. And then the foul on Fab not being called only for Brentford to get one in exactly the same spot with the same type of challenge 5 - 10 seconds later. And I’ve given up complaining about Mo not getting free kicks.

Alison’s booking was a ****ing pisstake. They spent longer on throw-ins that he did on his goal kick.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

That might have been an intention when we signed Ramsay but the fact that he has bad a terrible season fitness wise has ****ed that. Gomez too.

I think the form of Fabinho and Henderson and the contunued unavailability of some of our midfielders (Thiago, Keita) has also ****ed it. It could have been teased in with substitutions but our ****e form never gave us real opportunity to do that.

When our midfield was ****ed earlier on in the year, ans our defensive side to the game was suffering big time as a result, I'd have really liked us to go with a 3 4 3 formation with 3 CBs, trent and robbo / tsimi as wong backs, 2 solid midfielders. I think that would have allowed trent defensive support while trialing him in a more playmaking role.

The fact that we have been linked with Alexis Mac Allister is all well and good but i really think a really top notch defensive midfielder is key to us this summer as it will free up loads of options.

                                that would be the ideal.
Much less vulnerable to the long ball into the corner counter that is our recurring achillies heel.
