I know you meant this as meaning Phillips is so good he would make you look good, but let's be honest he is such a bum he would make you look like Maldini even to Helen Keller and she is dead.

I am honoured... But deep down it pains me knowing you are so far from the light, Jaco. Sometimes you need a defender who wont go all Dejan Lovren everytime a high ball comes into the box. Nat is that defender.

And wasnt Rhys Williams pretty good in the air too? I know they may lack amazing pace, but Id rather have a solid defender than a quicker one who is prone to panic.

The thing with a centreback is they dont mature until quite late in their career. Id be loathe to sell them too young in their development, although they also need games to develop. I think a loan path is the way to go.

Only centre backs we have that are older than Philips are Matip and VVD.


What we need is another Maguire to the Mancs moment to happen. Phillips is no worse a player than Maguire despite the latter having a load more experience so any time we hear of a club looking to buy Maguire we should then try to pimp Phillips to that club for a slightly lower price.


I don't actually think Phillips is a bad player, just that I think he is horribly underdeveloped for a 26 year old player and also nowhere near the level to even be amongst the first back ups at CB for a CL chasing club.
