Being able bodied is always a bonus alright. Think I'll feel much better about it if we get a top quality DM in January. For me, Endo isn't good enough to be a first team player if we want to win anything. Something is off with that midfield at the minute and the lads we have bought, there just isn't the right balance in there.

I agree, though it is still very early days. Szoboszlai is obviously an absolute superstar, Endo hasn't yet shown enough to start and Macca has been solid; tho we're obviously not playing to his strengths yet by asking him to sit deep

I'd love Endo to show the form he showed in Germany, and perhaps he just needs more time than Szoboszlai does? But I think we will go for someone else regardless

Issue is we've now got 4x midfielders (Szoboszlai, Macca, Gravenburch and Jones) for 2x positions; and that's without Harvey and Bajcetic

Personally I think it is as simple as having to accommodate TAA that is throwing off the balance of the team.

Both the midfield and back line are having to adjust around a single player.

Our right flank is pretty much non existant for most of games as both threat and barrier.


And despite all that accommodation we are seeing TAA's more quantifiable stats like assist and secondary assist numbers fall off of a cliff.


Think if we were starting games with TAA back in his old RB role as part of a back four, with Szobo at RCM, one from MacAllister/Jones/Gravebnberch at LCM, then Endo would look far more assured as a DM and look an even better squad player.




Do agree that we should be looking to bring in a quality DM or at the very least a quality deep lying midfielder, but at the same time I think even that might be wasted if that new quality DM is having to cover TAA beside him along with having to then be the one that has to also cover the back line when TAA is not quick to get back into a defensive position.

yeah not a fan of this hybrid role ****e and would much rather see us go back to the norm. I'm not a fan of Endo but players playing in their preferred role is always a good thing and imo McAllister has really struggled in there. It's hard to really judge MacAllister though as it's just not his position and he looks so uncomfortable there.

TAA has never been an uber athletic type though. Decent pace but never really fast.


Also never been an agile player so going up and down a flank suited him imo.

Plus when on the right flank he got pressed less so had more time to use his range of passing, imo again of course.

Did muse in another thread as to whether or not TAA being accommodated so much has anything to do with trying to get him to extend his contract which has only 19 or 20 months left on it or maybe if TAA is the one pushing to play in the centre instead of at right back.


Only thing that seems clear (as mud) at present is that the team has looked unbalanced since changing to the box set up and we are now using it since about March and the team looks no less clunky.
