That would explain why the check was so quick.

Edit,- actually, **** that for an explanation. Surely the VAR could have clarified with the ref when he saw Spurs getting a free kick for offside instead of the goal being awarded?

FFS not sure if this is correct or not, but another point to back up the need for dialogue between the ref and VAR to be broadcast. In rugby they seem to end the conversation with something like 'So I'm good to give the try?' which is confirmed by the other person. Clearly needed in situations like this where one hand has no idea what the other hand is doing
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Absolutely. Which implies this is not actually the reason.
      Really?

        What a ****in dope
Not a few minutes later - he should see immediately that the game continues with a free kick for offside rather than kicking off from the centre circle so it should have been a quick word on the radio: "Yo, it was a goal, what are you doing?".

That's my point they're admitting fault but nothing happens. Still no consequence or real responsibility taken. Particularly as they probably think they're right re the Jones sending off and Jota first yellow. Any admission is rare.

Most infuriating since the Everton game where they let Pickford assault van Dijk.

Just seen a YouTube vid with lines. Calculated that Diaz was onside by 62cm. It’s not just VAR, it’s also the linesman

But you’re right, surely the VAR would have clarified when he saw the on field ref continuing without awarding the goal?
You would think so, even if that results in them flashing the wrong decision up on the screen or the ref having to change his mind it's a slightly embarrassing error, rather than this colossal **** up.

Makes me wonder if this isn't true and is being put out because the truth is even worse or throws other decisions or people into question and this is just damage limitation.

Okay, back to just being ****ing useless rather than anything more sinister

We should appeal every yellow and red in that game. Unbelievable.

No precedent for replaying it as far as I'm aware, closest to retrospective action I can remember is awarding Man Utd a game winning penalty after the final whistle

PGMOL are quite simply not fit for purpose.
                            Oh I don't know.

A vote of no confidence in PGMOL is what's required here.

There needs to be root and branch reform as to how VAR is used and operated coupled with how PGMOL operates.

That Sheff U v Arsenal game was replayed years ago when… Kanu???? Scored a goal after they kicked it out?
