That is one option but the other thing is surely the VAR room realise that the mistake has been made at the point the game is setup to restart or kicks off, surely at that point you are screaming down the ref's ear piece that there has been a mistake "Stop!" I would be interested to hear the VAR room conversation and what if anything was said to the ref.

3 seconds between "check complete" and the game restarting (Spurs were already set-up for the free-kick) so not much time for them to react.

I used to be in the BB and one of the lieutenants was a First Division refereee. He told us about an incident that happened during a game (not sure if it was a league match) when a forward shot, it hit the post and came out into play. The game continued for a few minutes and then there was a stoppage. The linesman ( this was over 50 years ago) told him that the the ball had hit the stanchion not the post.Arthur, the ref, immediately blew his whistle and gave a goal. Has the law been changed from then to the present day or was this an individual using common sense?

I think it’s safe to say the rules have changed over the last 50yrs

The explanation that's been given doesn't really hold up to any sort of scrutiny. He thought the goal had been given whilst the lino has his flag up and everyone else knows it's been flagged for offside.

What's really mental is Webb is going to be apparently carrying out an investigation, surely he should be part of that investigation as under his watch the standard of officiating has actuall (somehow!) got worse.

Jesus christ, yeah that ridiculous stuff altogether.

Considering the first yellow shouldn't have been one then that's a bit rich.

6 or more cautions = a fine. So, can't really argue with that side of it. So long as it doesn't detract from the main talking point of the game and the focus stays on that element of it.

Well yeah, but we can't contest yellow cards so we are stuck with that. We could contest Jones' red card, but that would not succeed I don't think.

Ok so there was no time between the decision and the restart but, surely VAR noticed a few seconds after and could shout at the ref to stop.
