We’ve seen broken legs from regular tackles, but that isn’t what this is about. Foot down, straight leg onto ankle, shin or knees is a contact with a higher likelihood of serious injury, hence the specific focus on it. Clearly, not all 50/50 tackles create a significant risk of this type of contact. If you want to remove this type of contact, you punish people when it happens, it’s quite simple. And the idea that people won’t tackle with what is essentially the currently used logic in place is nonsense, people tackle.Last edited by Kenneth; 04-10-23, 09:15 AM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

So next time one of our players is in Jones' position what should they do?Originally posted by Kenneth View PostFundamentally, the rules exist to stop players getting badly hurt. Now it’s not strict liability, you can’t get sent off for a freak accident, but it’s the player’s responsibility not to put other players at risk. This incident lead to an impact that could have seriously injured the other player, it happened as part of a tackle that Jones made deliberately and whilst the bounce off the ball wasn’t entirely predictable, it was a direct result of the motion that jones made (we don’t need ‘clear and obvious’ bs here). It’s important that players are discouraged for making motions that might end up as this did. I understand why people feel aggrieved about the circumstances, but again, player safety is more important that harshly apportioned blame and such incidents should end in a red card as part of that focus on player welfare.
That said, I think the appeal had merits, if correct protocol was not followed then the punishment should not be enforceable as the goal of improving the fairness of the judgement process is also important.

Darren England, yes. The villain of the piece.Originally posted by RedReet View PostWho is it saying 'can't do anything'? England.
That first response he almost sounds gleeful, certainly dismissive. The other ones are clearly worried about the wrong decision and he's just 'nah **** it, can't do anything'.
And who's talking at at start? 'Delaying, delaying, just coming back for the offside'.
Is that the linesman talking or at least him they are talking about. Delaying putting up his flag, then calling for a check on the offside? Why did they think it was given?Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Kick the bottom half of the ball, pull out of the tackle or make the challenge with the risk of getting sent off. Same as it ever was.Originally posted by BG1973 View PostSo next time one of our players is in Jones' position what should they do?Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I don't think anybody who watched the tackle in real time thought it was a red, including the ref who was metres away. If the Spurs player's leg wasn't planted and Jones boot slid down his shin, it wouldn't even be a discussion, but imo Jones is being punished for the impact, which he has no control over, rather than the force of the challenge. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

This message at the end of the video pissed me off as well. Basically trying to draw a close to it all, and saying it has already been dealt with etc.
I also thought Howard Webb was a predictable coward. He's appeared on Sky to run through all the previous audio they've released. He dodged it this time.

Have they asked Gallagher is view on this one? Because I really hope they do and play him that clip and ask what's differentOriginally posted by RichC View PostIt comes back to consistency doesn't it or the lack of it. It doesn't help the likes to Gallagher being rolled out to explain why/why not it's a red.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The Skipp/Diaz incident is actually much worse than Jones's red because Skipp is clearly not in control as he comes sliding in.
The fact the Gallagher explained it away with 'he got the ball' and 'if you freeze frame it, it looks really bad' is simply laughable in the context of what happened to Jones and VARs influence on the refs initial decision for a yellow.
I'd love them to get Gallagher, replay him the comments he made on Skipp and then ask him to defend their decision on the Jones RedLast edited by rudedog; 04-10-23, 01:20 PM.
