We weren’t ever going to sign Caicedo for £110m.

Think that bit is the only bit that matters tbh.

Be cool if we could bring in a good player or two this window as we do seem a little light in some departments, but at the same time I have no real complaints about this season other than in game stuff that could happen no matter how good a squad is.

Top of the table on December 31st during a season that I very much expected to be a transitional one is not to be sniffed at.

Not in the slightest bit bothered either if City do manage to do what they usually do and see a big uptick in their form in the second half of the season as we have form for doing the exact same thing in the second half of seasons.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

So if Chelsea didn’t insist on matching our bid, you reckon we would have pulled out? After all that commotion?

The end result is that Endo (who is getting better and better) for £18m looks a far better deal than Caicedo for £110m so far. Contributing goals and assists as well as a solid DDM for a team that currently tops the League.

Caicedo looks bang average. He’s not the CDM we are looking for.

The right player is obviously key, we should have the money to go into the market if we need to and can get the right player(s). I would like to see us bring someone in to add a bit of depth, we are light in a couple of areas if we get injuries, but I don't want to spend just for the sake of it
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We’d probably got wind of how far Chelsea were going to go. There’s no way we’d have signed him for £110m. Honestly, what evidence or track record is there to suggest that would’ve been the likely course of action?

Caicedo is a better overall player than Endo. Pound for pound, Endo’s probably the better signing. But if they were the same price, Caicedo would be the one to get out of the two. Higher ceiling, more prospect of longevity, better sell-on value.

Mate, you’re not making any sense here. Brighton set a deadline, we had a bid accepted, then Chelsea kicked up a fuss and got back into negotiations.

“There’s no way we would have signed him for £110m” - we absolutely would have if Chelsea didn’t come back in. The deal was agreed between clubs.

And what evidence is there of LFC breaking transfer records to sign players who would instantly improve the first team? Err..

That’s a good example of the ‘absence of evidence fallacy’ (also known as the argument from ignorance)

Conversely, what evidence or track record is there of FSG making huge bids and then pulling out?

Henry up to his old tricks again. I heard it was him that leaked the Virg transfer to the press, causing it to fall through.

The Alison transfer was only for show too, but when we were about to pull out, the fax machine broke.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

But signing Caicedo might have meant he was the only one we brought in, and subsequently wouldn't have given us the depth that has been so needed. What would be your answer to the question, Endo, Mac Allister and Slob or Caicedo?

I don't understand why we would bid £110m if we had no intention of going through with it. We tend to play our cards close to our chest regarding how much transfer budget we have to avoid being ripped off, bidding that and still needing to buy other players seems to go against our approach in the past

I’m not saying we should’ve signed him for £110m. Just that the idea of Endo being better than him overall, isn’t really true.
