New Manager for Liverpool 2.0

Maybe FSG shared this sentiment and it’s partly why he’s going.Originally posted by peterbread View PostI think we can all admit the transfers haven’t been as good since Edwards left. We seemed to go on such a great run with him but once we went away from the usual system we haven’t been the same. Not knocking Klopp and his ability to get the best out of players but his choices haven’t been as effective. Going back to a system that got us back on top and where the manager doesn’t have all the say will hopefully get the transfers back on track.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I think his primary formation is more a 4-2-3-1 with a reasonably attacking double pivot.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostIt's a shame the new guy will also play 4 3 3. It's got boring. Plus it still leaves the trent dilemma. Wide in a 5 would have been interesting.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Looking at the process that’s happening now, I think it’s fair to ask whether this could have just been sorted in the summer. We announced Klopp was leaving in advance so we could make headway with the recruitment of his successor, but it’s not obvious that we couldn’t have just found similar names available at the end of the season without all the disruption. All of the Edwards stuff could have happened without the reveal and the players didn’t need to know. Did we do it so we could approach Alonso specifically?Last edited by Kenneth; 25-04-24, 08:41 AM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Why would we have ended up with Southgate? You think Slot would have been unavailable in two weeks time?Originally posted by BG1973 View Post⁹Not really fair at all I don't think. Doomed if you do or don't.
If we hadn't and then ended up with southgate you'd be saying the same except arguing that we should have announced it earlier.

So it worked out, announcing that Klopp was leaving, and the circus around it, to make sure Slot doesn’t agree to move to another club in the next 15 days? And we couldn’t have reached out to him specifically without it leaking to the press in the next 15 days? I’m really not convinced the plan worked.Originally posted by labourRed View PostCould've - plenty of suitors.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I've said this a few times but I think a new manager either builds the side around Trent in midfield or sells him. Not saying that I want that to happen but it seems Trent doesn't want to play as a regular RB which limits the options if a new manager doesn't want to play the hybrid role. Either he becomes a key part of midfield or something has to give.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostIt's a shame the new guy will also play 4 3 3. It's got boring. We’re hearing about Liverpool/Slot now because that is the move that’s progressing. We don’t know which other clubs may have also approached him over the past couple of months and had Liverpool not made their interest known until later on, he could well already be finalising with one of them.
None of the other clubs who’ve known they’re replacing their manager this summer will have been sitting on their hands until May. It would have been reckless for us to do so..

Very much so for us or any other team looking for a manager.
Given that this summer any new managers in top leagues will have less time than usual to meet their new squads and to implement their changes given the better players will be off to one of the number of international tournaments on this summer and then those players will be going on the three week holidays after the tournaments end. So some players might not return to their clubs until late July or early August and then the new season kicks off on the 17th August.
Going to be a truncated pre season and settling in period for new managers this year.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
