We’re hearing about Liverpool/Slot now because that is the move that’s progressing. We don’t know which other clubs may have also approached him over the past couple of months and had Liverpool not made their interest known until later on, he could well already be finalising with one of them.

None of the other clubs who’ve known they’re replacing their manager this summer will have been sitting on their hands until May. It would have been reckless for us to do so.
Exactly, we don’t know about anyone’s interest in managers. The whole rationale people gave for the announcement was that the cat would get out of the bag. If you had to make a convincing case today for the announcement in January, what would it be?

We do have an idea of which clubs are sniffing around managers though.
We just don’t know who they’re going to land on, which were just initial sounding out interest and which are just pure speculation.

Can Liverpool really go around Europe sounding out multiple candidates, their agents, their clubs, without something leaking somewhere?

Probably not. Will a few weeks head start make a difference, probably not. I don’t think we were following the approach of asking everyone if they’re interested and then picking from the yeses anyway. Nobody is committing to anyone until the season is finished, managers included. If we’d wrapped Xabi up then you could say fair enough, the succession plan worked, but at the moment the benefits of destabilising the season are speculative and still highly questionable imo.

          No - they can’t.

            Here's what a Liverpool 3.0 could look like -

            ------------- Giminez/Nunez/Danns ------------

            --- Gakpo/Diaz/Jota --- Salah/Jones/Mac Allister/Gravenberch --- Szoboszlai/Elliott/TAA

            --- Mac Allister/Endo --- Bajcetic/Jones

            Aït-Nouri/Robertson -- VVD/Gomez -- Quansah/Konate -- Bradley/Gomez

            ----------------- Alisson --------------

I think we can shed Nunez, Tsimikas, Matip, Adrian and Thiago from the squad, and sign Giminez and Aït-Nouri. We'd just need one more VVD type central defender.

And then we have some great youth players like Scanlon, McConnell, Clark, Koumas, Gordon, Nyoni,

How does every other club in the world get a new manager?

I don't think Klopp's announcement is solely responsible for the collapse of the team since the FA Cup exit; but it has to have had a bearing on the players

It’s a few months head start, not weeks. We’ll have made approaches to multiple candidates though. It’s not the like one who gets the job will have been the only one the club had conversations/interviews with.

Personally I wouldn’t change it. It’s speculative to believe that the season would have played out significantly differently on the pitch, but that the process and outcome of replacing the manger would have remained just the same.

We've just assembled a squad capable of pushing for the top prizes, with most players still to hit their prime. Sounds like the sort of coach that could come in and keep the momentum going with this existing group.
I'm not as optimistic as you, I think the squad is actually pretty average now and will need lot of money and fortune to get us pushing for the title again. We've had two of the absolute best players on the planet, one looks completely shot and will need to be moved on (Salah), and VVD who peaked a few years ago.

Then we have a large group of players who either can't be relied upon due to fitness, are fairly average or have their best days way behind them, Matip, Thiago, Jota, Endo, Gravenberch, Gomez, Tsimikas, and of course the 80m problem that is Nunez. It may be harsh adding Gravenberch to this group already, but I just don't see it in him in this league, the heart isn't there for it imo. I'm not actually a massive fan of Konate either, who also seems to be a little injury prone, but he's a decent enough to be a squad member I suppose. I appreciate that my view pn Konate may be a little controversial.

Most of the remaining players all have enough, Trent, Mac, Diaz (flirting with Spain?) Robertson, Jones. You have potential in some of the youth players, but its very difficult to judge them on the back of this season alone. I think Szobo will come good, as too Gakpo, but again thats more hope than established and proven quality/class.

If one things for sure, with my not overly impressed view on the squad that'll be left by Klopp, I see the only option for us to move forward and improve is to have a new manager with new ideas with no player loyalties.

Much of the time has been used for appoint sporting directors etc. stuff not dependent on the announcement.

There is also the factor of player contractual convos that may well have come up. Klopp isn't the sort of person to keep quiet/mislead on any of that stuff.

Anyway easy to question after the fact but not fair at all in my opinion.

Should the captain go so public like this...
I wonder if the recent Dutch incomers were influenced by him.

"I find it hard to answer of course, but I think Arne Slot is perhaps one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment," Van Dijk told Viaplay, external following his side's 2-0 defeat at Everton on Wednesday.

He said of his fellow Dutchman: "I think the way of playing and the philosophy he has, that he could be a Liverpool coach.

"Only I think from what I read and hear is that it's still far from being completed. We shall see."

I don't understand that. Surely they've all had media training on what to say and what not to say. If they can cover their mouths on the pitch they can stick to one line. It's not like Van Dijk is a ****wit.

Unless he has been asked to help smooth the way, which could suggest it's done
