Edwards will cut him loose regardless of finish if he thinks he's cooked, same with Hughes, this is why Edwards left, Klopp got too much power on contracts etc, + other bitsOriginally posted by Exiled_red View PostWe stopped discussions on a new contract with him, which means that his future is somewhat up in the air, I don't think anything has been decided yet and it will ultimately depend on what happens in the remainder of the season. If we don't make the CL I think he goes at the end of the season if not before - if we have another really bad period and CL qualification looks to be getting away from us I think he could go then. We are still in the CL and the FA Cup, not sure the FA Cup has much bearing on the outcome to be honest. Winning the CL would likely be a different matter although I think the chances of that happening are very small. I think realistically we need to get good results and showing a good way of playing decent football in a working system that looks like it will get even better when players get back and we can go into next season as serious contenders for major trophies. I think at that point the they decide to keep him they probably back him with a new contract.
In terms of the summer, I think next summer is a bigger summer than this summer just gone. Last year the VVD and Salah contracts kicked the can down the road, I think now we really have to do something about those, we need to bring in a Salah replacement (even if we decide we want him to stay around and see out his contract). Konate's contract is up, we are already a CB light, so likely need to bring in 2 CBs before even evaluating where Gomez and VVD are at. We also need to bring in another CM, the 4 that he trusts at the moment isn't enough. Robertson is out of contract too, and you can't imagine Chiesa and Endo will be around at the start of next season. If the players mentioned leave we are down to a senior squad of 19 which include Rio and Nyoni and 3 GKs before anyone comes in, 4 first team capable players in is a minimum probably more. Question is where does the money come from? Even if we could get Guehi on a free you are probably looking at best part of £200m for the other 3 players we needI make no apologies, this is me

We are always right on the edge with the maximum number of non-HG players, Endo and Chiesa look nailed on to leave Ramsay could easily be cut loose as well if we needed another spot, with Robertson and Konate out of contract that's 5 spots opened up. There is also the possibly Salah's future to be determined we could find ourselves with 6 non-HG spots opened up.Originally posted by memzey View PostYeah, basically agree with all of this. The other thing I'd throw in to the mix, as regards the squad at least, is the need for more home grown players. I suspect that will play a major part in who we bring in this summer.
I said earlier I think we need at least 4 players to come in even if Salah stays 2 CBs (one replacing Konate), a CM to boost the numbers in there and a forward (2 if Salah stays. Robertson leaving would mean we need a LB from somewhere, maybe that is Tsimikas coming back maybe something else. If all those were non-HG we would be back to where we are now and relying on HG players or youngsters to fill any additional squad roles. There has been talk of Guehi obviously, as well as Wharton or Elliot Anderson as midfield options and Olise as a wide player - no idea if the links to these are serious but all those would count as homegrown so a couple of those types of players would help significantly. What we really lack at the moment are a significant number of HG players who are likely to feature regularly - Bradley, Gomez, Jones and Frimpong are all we have the other 4 spaces are taken by a 3rd choice GK and the rest wasted, I think ideally you want at least 6 HG players who are going to be getting regular minutes. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

For me it's not even so much about getting that much out of him, as a bare minimum if he plays 10-15 mins a week that's time that Gravenberch/MacAllister/Szobozlai/Jones don't have to play which would hopefully keep them fresh and help avoid injuriesOriginally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostI wonder why he doesn't give endo any minutes. He's an international captain with bags of experience and full of determination. It's bizarre. I'm not advocating starting him, but surely some cameos would be useful. Klopp could get a tune out of him. I don't see any players who have performed better under slot apart from Dom. I think that's probably down to having got used to the league and experience. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Agree with you in that it would be handy to be able to give players a rest.
But the team have been ****e. The scenario where he can rest players is surely when the game is beyond a risk. I can't remember one game like that this season. Maybe frankfurt away in the champions league?? Even against Barnsley, Slot would probably have liked to be able to bring on Ramsay and Endo.....but because the game was only 2-1, he couldn't do that and so had to bring on Wirtz and Ekitike (although a 15 min appearance for Ekitike was probably part of the plan with him coming back from injury)

Was chatting with a guy at work today, he's a United fan but he's sound and a decent fella. Well spoken etc.
He's told me he has it on very good, reliable information that Slot will remain until the end of the season then he's off, the club won't be keeping him on as manager.
He wouldn't say for obvious reasons who his contact is but I have no reason not to dispute it, he attends a fair few United games so I imagine he does know people from within the game.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. I reckon it hasn't been decided yet.
The club might reach out to Alonsos people to gauge his potential interest but I doubt they have made a call on Arne yet

That guy I spoke to earlier. I asked him if the info was legit and he said absolutely, 100%. Could be bollocks but thought I'd share it with you anyway.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young.
