Thanjk you.

If we are sticking with him we definitely need him on a new extended up contract, even one with get out clauses. Not so much as a whisper. How can he command any respect from a playing group that know the club aren’t backing him. How do we complete signings for a manager that has no provision in place for long term security.
Or Alonso or his agent might have indicated he is interested in looking elsewhere.
Maybe. But if he's heading to the Premier League then it's fair to assume Liverpool would be his overwhelming preference over Chelsea, given the choice.

Or so WE would think anyway.
My own assumption would be that Liverpool would be his first choice, but that may or may not be the case.

If we want him imo he's there for the taking and would jump at the chance but do we? It's a tough one to gauge, there are other options but he knows the club, adored by the fans & that nostalgia would really ignite the fanbase coming into next season. I just cannot fathom Arne Slot being a LFC next season, obviously anything can happen but that trust is gone. Losing the internet/tv fans is one thing but he has lost Anfield.. who are usually very diplomatic & he seems to have lost a portion of the players too. When that happens, I just don't see any coming back from that. Fresh start, fresh ideas, some new exciting signings and we go again.

I am not as sure as most seem to be that we are Alonso's first choice.
I think we are a club he really likes/loves and one he supports, but I am not as convinced we are one he wants to manage. Might well be he does not want the risk of tainting his legacy at the club and love of it by managing it.
He may well have a more clinical pov when it comes to picking what club he may or may not manage.

If that’s the case Madrid would have been a weird choice. You know exactly what you’re getting managing that club and it’s been the same for a long time now.
But in saying that and your point maybe that has put him off going to a club he has a connection with now. But Chelsea seems like they’d be another Madrid situation where he won’t get the players he wants or the control. They may say they give him more control but they have multiple DOF, isn’t it something like 5, where every other club has one and the owners are so hands on when they don’t have the knowledge to be.
I think he’d get more patience from the supporters here if it didn’t start that well because of who he is and the connection he has with the club and the fans. Like many have said Slot doesn’t seem to have that bond even after winning the league.

Madrid is different though imo. Everyone knows they are a basketcase club where the fans and owners can turn on you in a flash, let alone the players doing so.
Think "failing" there is different to failing at a club where you are/were beloved by the support even lng after you left.
I have no doubt Alonso would get a fair shout as manager here, but just have a feeling that of all his old clubs us and Real Sociedad may be the ones he least wants to manage and most wants to remain a support of.
Have nothing at all to back that up with, but could see him going to say Bayern before coming to us or going to one of the clubs that we tend to call plastic clubs.
Just think he is a pretty sentimental man in some regards and likes to keep that aspect of his personality out of his professional decisions.

He definitely didn’t fail there and I wouldn’t judge him on his time at Madrid. Lots of players and managers have been got rid of quickly for not being good enough and gone on the do very well elsewhere.
I’m in the don’t know about Alonso camp. The sentimental side would like him but I honestly don’t know enough about his style of play and haven’t seen enough of his teams to know. But he is very open about what approach he’d take and I wouldn’t judge his style just on his Leverkusen time as he’s said he’ll adapt to the squad and team he has.
I really don’t know who the club should go for but that’s more about my knowledge. I don’t watch as much football outside of Liverpool anymore. Ideally I’d like someone who’s experienced and been through a tough period and found a way out. It’s a difficult one because the level you need to be at to manage a club like Liverpool means there aren’t a lot of those experienced candidates. Would the club be happy to back another promising young inexperienced manager because there are plenty of those.
Who knows what’s really going on but knowing the owners I think they will having a proper discussion about all three of Slot, Hughes and Edwards.

One thing that has stood out to me about Alonso and his team set ups/tactics, is that Slot seems to have his number.
Alonso has played us with his Leverkusen team and his Real team, with those games tended to be ones where Slot's set ups actually looked very good.
Tiny sample of games to go on of course, but do find it interesting that Alonso's settled Leverkusen team look poor/weak against us and a Real team full of big names looked second best to us.
That is not of course me saying keep Slot, never get Alonso and what not, just that it is interesting how poor, result wise, Alonso's set ups have looked against those of Slot when they went head to head.

Hard to know, the higher ups will say Slot was always first choice. Same as if we get someone else after Slot, regardless if the board tried to get x or y.. the guy who ends up manager will be "the first choice".
Maybe we aren't his first choice and he isn't sentimental, maybe he wants to live in London. We are going to find out soon enough anyways whether our lads want to keep Slot.

Probably a lot of truth in that
Think another factor that might be in play with regards to keeping Slot or not is of who we want is willing to say yes when we want them to or not.
You and I might jump at the job, but actual footy managers might want to run down current contracts or if free agents might be looking at who pays the most and so on.
Do still wonder if the World cup is playing any part in who we are going after.
Only guy going to the World cup that have been linked with is Nagelsmann I think. Cannot recall any other International manager being linked.

I just don't know about his managerial choices after BL being Madrid and now potentially Chelsea. Is he just chasing dysfunction and ignominy after such a settled start? After his boring first marriage he now wants crack addicted dominatrixes?

Yeah true, the world cup is going to be a very significant factor in transfers, so maybe managers too.
