With the aim of getting match fit, so I guess it's consistent with that. But we're half way through the season and Slott doesn't think he's ready/able to play in the premier league, so there is something disappointing about that. He was cheap for a reason, hopefully we can fix that reason given the time spent, but it's not looking promising.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Or it might just be that unless he’s getting a decent amount of minutes, he’s not going to get match fit so the time is better spent on trying to keep him fit (extra training).
We will know more if he doesn’t start or get decent minutes in the upcoming domestic cup gamesLast edited by rudedog; 31-12-24, 02:34 PM.

If it’s just about match fitness then surely we’d be seeing him on the bench much more often.Originally posted by rudedog View PostOr it might just be that unless he’s getting a decent amount of minutes, he’s not going to get match fit so the time is better spent on trying to keep him fit (extra training).

With the game won by half time, West Ham would have been a great chance to give him 30 mins or more to build his match fitness..

In hindsight yes, I don’t think Slot would have predicted being 3-0 up at half time though (we have been routinely poor in the first half of many games)Originally posted by Mark79 View PostIf it’s just about match fitness then surely we’d be seeing him on the bench much more often.

We also had Elliot and Jota on the bench who are being eased back in and both needed minutes - maybe Slot just thought there wasn’t much likelihood of Chiesa getting a decent enough run out.
I’m not saying this is the case, just offering a different narrative based on Slots comments

But yes fair point about Jota and Elliott. Slot may have thought it would have been 1 too many players who are needing their minutes built back up again..

When the squad is this strong and the team in this sort of form you cannot please everyone. It’s an elite environment so something is holding Chiesa back, be it form or fitness or cultural fit. You don’t get minutes because you want them, you get them because you deserve them. These guys will have been dealing with that their entire careers.
Even with the other players we’ve historically given time to bed in (Fabinho, Robbo) by this stage of their first season they were starting to break through.Modifying post.

If the whole season ends and we are still here then there are questions over him. We knew he was a fitness project given his past and I didn't expect much from him by now, citing the examples you've given.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostWhen the squad is this strong and the team in this sort of form you cannot please everyone. No point in bringing him to London if we can get extra sessions into him. We have an unbelievably good forward line and if Elliott is struggling to get back in you can see how an outsider to the league would as well.
That said, I expect him to play against Spurs and Accrington S.
