Agreed, Macca is our Alonso right now. But a whole new midfield would be a worry (we got cut through by Bournemouth a bit too easily). Some calm and experience will be required especially if we are going with a complete new back line.

The thing with that back line is they have all played together in the past and we have often had games as recently as last season where two or three of that four (maybe even all four) started together.

So whilst a complete change from the starting back four, it is not a back line that should have a massive lack of cohesion.

It'll be interesting to see what Slot does, as a new manager he doesn't have the safety net of having won trophies and achieved things at the club that Klopp had through the middle to the end of his reign. So I suspect that he won't make wholesale changes, maybe 3 or 4 but I don't imagine him making 10 or 11 and resting the whole of the first team. This competition is a potential opportunity for him to win his first silverware so I imagine there will be a degree of caution in the selection.
