11 people in stable condition in hospital, police say

Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims then confirms on behalf of the NHS that 50 people were treated at hospitals following the incident.

Of these, 11 remain in hospital. All are in a stable condition and appear to be recovering well, she says.

Sims then pays tribute to members of the emergency services who immediately ran to a "dangerous situation" and were on the scene in seconds.

Theres a photo going around of the supposed guy and he looks neither 53 or white. Wonder how long till we get some proper details about him. I still say anyone caught driving while drunk or on drugs should lose their license for 10 years. Plenty of these idiots just keep doing it. Wonder if hes been done before. Driving while on drugs shows hes beyond careless and definitely done it before.

Also I find some of the posts on this thread pretty distasteful. Might be worth reigning in some of the discourse surrounding yesterday's events and either moving to a thread in the lounge or taking them elsewhere altogether.

It's been doing the rounds since yesterday. Phto of the same chap getting in the driver seat of a police car. Seen suggestion it's some 'influencer' dicking around.

It's not the driver though. You can be sure of that because he's out the car and neither surrounded by police or beaten to a pulp.

This is why the police had to come out with details. Cos some RW weirdos were trying to do exactly the same whipping up of agendas re Southport riots, to start a wider problem. Thankfully it never gained any traction.

Proper details. You know. Photo. What the reasons were for what happened. Surely he's been interrogated or offered the info himself. Its not like hes a minor for them to hold back things people are wanting to know. 53 and white doesnt really tell you much about him as a person and why this happened. Its natural to want to know more.

If he’s charged then we won’t get any details until the case goes to court, other than probably a name. Everything else you’ve mentioned would be prejudicial and wouldn’t respect due process.

I'm pretty sure that if someone is prepared to drive drunk or high on drugs then they're equally prepared to drive with no licence or insurance.

I don't want to know anything apart from the reason.

For example was it a medical episode, was he off his meds, was he really trying to kill people?

Also I want to know that lessons were learned and new rules put in place for traffic management around large gatherings of people whether it's a Christmas market or a trophy parade.
