Yeah that’d help us enormously oh they'll need a striker too & we just happen to have one that they can have.

Except for the 3 goals and 7 assists he got in 24 games for Middlesbrough last season before his injury. Not bad for a 19 year old.

He probably won’t make it at LFC because of Salah but he’ll have a good career at the top level if he can avoid injuries.

Yeah he did show signs of improving his end product last season I’ll grant you that. I’d like to actually see the 7 assists before making an informed decision based on the metrics they use to constitute an assist. For example Rio got an assist for Szoboszlai’s goal due to the fact he was the last player to touch the ball . Personally I see an assist as being a significant event in the goal being scored unlike the stats people

Liverpool vs Athletic Bilbao: Where to watch

These back-to-back pre-season friendlies will take place on Monday, August 4.

They will be played at Anfield with the first match kicking-off at 5pm before the second fixture at 8pm.

Supporters not in attendance will be able to watch all of the action live on either Liverpool's dedicated LFCTV or 'All Red Video' services.

They’re all on YouTube but there’s two of them. They were often cut backs or crosses right before shots that lead to goals.

I don’t think it’s wonder kids that are head down nowadays it’s more likely wide forwards are as these positions are the ones that require players to go 1 on 1 and beat their man with dribbling.

They are head down in that moment when the play has slowed and they need to look for ways to throw their opponents weight off balance before deciding which way to run

Not bad at that level & I wouldn’t be against the idea of sending him out on loan again either.

I never considered that. Good post

So you are directionally right in that I haven't watched pre-season and am making my comments on the basis of one game last season (which I have been up front about), but I wouldn't say I've been particularly vocal - I think I've posted about four or five times on him. I wouldn't say I had a strong opinion on him slowing down the game either - I just observed that's what I thought after that game and asked if it had changed. I also said he's too young to be a back up - I think that's fair. Lastly, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say comparing a 16 year old to peak Barnes is a little too much...

I will take your advice and watch the game, though. You are correct that it is not fair to form strong opinions about anyone, especially a developing player, after watching one game.
Yeah, but there had only been 4 or 5 posts about him, which you had to shoot down. You were like Baitman on a Trent post.

Obviously I'm joking and my original post wasn't a criticism either, just an observation. I think why your posts have stood out is because everywhere I read, people are raving about Rio and getting properly excited. Like you say, nothing outrageous in the points you are making, they just have some negative undertones, which is a contrast to most other comments. That's why I was curious if you watched the game the other day. It was the 'he can dribble, big deal' comment, just seemed out of place after such an impressive cameo.

No doubt you'll watch next game and Rio will have a stinker.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Well that was kind of meant to be a joke

I did watch the highlights of the game in Japan btw - and he did seem more direct. I guess they cut out all the bits where he was slowing us down

Does anyone know if the early KO tomorrow is the B team & the main game follows?

I don't think there will be an A and B team, they'll both be a mix of first XI and squaddies.

You think so? I thought Arne would want to start getting the main team playing together & getting used to each other with the Community Shield next Sunday

Theo Squires from the Echo predicting the 2 sides based on Gravenberch being suspended for our season opener plus Macca being on the bench due to him still building up match fitness.
