Add Jovanovic, Wilson, Shelvey, Meireles, and Brad Jones as the others who signed that summer.

Not sure if that raises or lowers the bar to be honest.

I had doubts about Diouf from the start as he never quite looked like he had the ball fully under his control. I thought Diao was going to be like Vieira though.

GH lost it after his heart condition and was never quite the same thereafter. The summer when we decided not to keep Anelka and instead got Diouf was one of those "what could have been" points in time.

Its just a shame he had that awful illness. He was absolutely dependable while he was here though.

Became a 1 season wonder. But what a ****ing season.

Helluva player back in the day. Was one of the main voices in a changing room of big characters but I read he used to Babbel on a bit!

Agree big time on Babbel......pity about his injury / disease. Was a ****in brilliant player.

That team under Houllier was flying and when we won the cup treble it was obvious that we were close. We were very hard to beat and had some very good options. I'd nearly compare them to the present day Arsenal team in that we were strong offensively but not really epic. But ****in hard to beat.

Spunking the transfer kitty on Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou was what ****ed it up in a big way when we needed to make the final step. Anelka and Duff would have been brilliant instead and were there to be signed. **** sake

Man I loved Babbel - thought he was such quality, a step above many of our other players in that Ged team

He’s up there with Gary Mac and Milner as the best Bosmans we’ve ever got. The derby goal at Goodison was some moment
