Worked hard off the ball doing his defensive job and was moving about and linked the midfield and attack. Looked much better in there league and the setup got much more out of him.

And he's a RW in a 433 for Holland. It just seemed a bit of a convenience getting him in when Trent was going, he's so limited in comparison to Trent though.

He's got some pace on him which could be used pretty effectively given how flat footed we seem to be now, but every time I've seen him at RB, he's knocked off the ball or bullied far too easily.

The clips I watched of him at Leverkusen, he seemed to waspishly get back and nick the ball from the opposition - that would be better as a supporting defensive action rather than being the last line, because he's too ****ing small to be in the back 4 in the Premier League. Anything we got from him that way as a RW would be better than the non existent effort we're seeing from Salah now.

Does make me wonder what the plan here for Frimpong was, given he was a RWB / RW in a fluid 3/5/2 formation at Leverkusen, and rarely (I think) part of a back 4

he's hardly played and has looked very dangerous when he has (other than one game where he had a mare)

his hamstring issue is a worry though. Last thing you want guys with his pace getting is reoccurring hammy's

For all the tactical approaches and changes in formation, if we keep playing like it's walking football and with no intensity, it isn't going to make a blind bit of difference.

One thing's for sure, this isn't what Wirtz signed up for, and I'm fairly sure it wasn't the plan that was sold to him.

Not a tactician but rumours are we'll see a different shape after the int'l break and we'll start with Isak and Ekitike. I suspect two up top, diamond will be the direction of travel.

I wouldn’t mind seeing that, something different is definitely needed. It could also be similar to what they played away to Frankfurt. 442 in defence and Wirtz playing off the right in attack allowing the FB to take the space out wide.

Like others have suggested two upfront with Wirtz behind or Isak up from and Ekitike and Wirtz behind and the width coming from the FB’s. Something with Wirtz, Ekitike and Isak as a three with some flexibility to it.

Personally I would like something like this for a few games. Tall side, physical side with pace.

Think that would essentially turn into a 442 or a very lob sided half way house between 442 and 433.

Think we need three in the middle, and that at present it has to be three from Gravenberch, Szobo, MacAllister and Jones (unless Slot starts trusting Endo).

We need that engine room in the centre and cannot really afford to remove one of the trio in favour of a more attacking player imo.


It's upfront where, again imo, we need to be more creative and more flexible in our set up.

Have the solid base with a settled four at the back and a settled three in the middle, then move away from wingers in the front three (for now anyway) as we simple do not have the pace from our current options to play that way.

Go with two strikers and an Am. Go with one striker with two CFS or two AMs behind him. Go with a CF or striker with two WAMs. Basically play to the strengths of the attacking players we have. Let them play that bit closer to goal, let them use their close control, dribbling and quick passing abilities.

But whatever way we try to set up, we need to stop playing guys that excel at linking play, that excel with close control and spotting/making runs and putting them out wide where they really need raw pace to get past markers and head for goal.

Just pointless having close control link up type players out wide as they beat a man and still have to work their way a fair bit forward before they are in a position that actually suits their skill sets. Just start them in the positions closer to goal and let their collective abilities do the rest.

Plus we will not get killed out wide imo as a result as if we have three attackers going narrow, it forces the other team to either pull a full back in to help the CBs or to drop a CM deeper to do the same and that then imo negates any advantage us going narrow would give to the other team's wide play.
