When it comes to football I’d rather hope and dream than worry and fear. Makes the whole experience a lot more pleasurable.

You just have to look at some amazing players who have had very successful careers in this league and how long it took to adjust. Pires is one that springs to mind.

He’s definitely not ****. No need to wait for that one. Whether and/or how he proves to be the right piece for our puzzle remains to be seen.

    His Bessie has said.

Speaking to All Red Video after the game, the playmaker’s close friend and long-time teammate Frimpong insisted there is a lot more to come.

“He’s just getting started, you know?” the right-back said.

“Obviously I’ve been with him for four years in Leverkusen, so I know what he can do. I’m seeing that it’s coming, there’s a lot more to see from him.”

Indeed. This thread has been fairly reasonable and honest up to now. Far from some of the toxic stuff that we have seen in the past, that much is certain.

FWIW, I regularly see examples of Wirtz's quality whenever he plays. There is no doubt about it, this boy is a baller, as the kids would say. Some of his touches and movement are sublime so the skill is definitely present, that's the truth.

It's also the truth to say that, we are looking for a lot more from him, eventually. It's also true that some of our best play so far this season was in the first half on Saturday, when we had our old midfield out. There are extenuating circumstances at play but these are some of the facts as I see them. That doesn't mean I'm giving up on the lad or our ability to incorporate him into the team. It's just an observation.

There remains work to be done to get the best out of him and improve us as a team overall. That should not be contentious to anyone, unless they think that what we are currently seeing from Wirtz and the team is as good as it's going to get. I'll be interested to see how that nut is cracked.

Can we just Han Solo the thread for 12 months... and then come back and give out the congratulatory hand shandies?

But his general ability with the ball, the way he can be surrounded by 2 or 3 players and still retain the ball or get a pass away, that is already clear. He is hounded the minute he receives the ball as well, which leaves other players open. So yeah, I'm fine with his start, and I think it's pretty obvious he will adapt and flourish.

Yep count me in too. I have zero concerns at this early stage.
