He needs a solid base of two big strong midfielders behind if he ia playing midfield, imho. I dont think Him and Macca together is a great idea at the moment.

Nah he’d be fine to take up positions on the edge of the box if the team has control of the game and is dominating the opponent.

    Obviously that’s not currently happening.

If the running was such a key component to the team, I’ve no idea why they signed anyone and didn’t just like szobo keep his place as AM

Agreed. Rotate him with Gakpo. Rotate Salah with Ekitike

This is a good article imo.

I’d like to see wirtz run less, walk more and be receiving no the ball on the edge of the box more often.

Currently he’s doing wee runs all the time (a lot of which aren’t spotted by his teammates in time) but I think it’s harder to be marked out of a game sometimes when you slow down and sit in the blind spots of those trying to mark you before accelerating quickly vs just running all over the show.

Initially I didn’t understand the rumours of Wirtz because I thought szobo was phenomenal at pressing behind the centre forward last season. Early on last season there were lots of examples where szobo salah and gakpo/diaz would be in parrallel with Diaz/jota/nunez ahead during the press.

I think he’ll come good but he has to be found more around the box and not gassed when he gets on the ball. Needs to build those combinations with Salah and Isak/Ekitike and it may mean others around him like gakpo and the two behind have to share more of the pressing burden.

I don’t think the press is as good without szobo but surely that was a planned trade off for wirtzs skill around the box.

My son's youth team conceded that amount in some games and I'm pretty sure they didn't all go in
