Surprised he didn't discuss at all the possibility of him playing as part of the midfield 3.

I'd be very surprised if we bought him to play LW. He could obviously do a job there, but surely we're playing him centrally?

He did discuss him in the midfield 3, but then discounted it and suggested left sided 10 (not LW) and false 9 as more likely options.

We won’t be playing with wingers though, Frimpong and Kirkez will provide the width. Maybe Slot will deploy a fluid front 3 of Diaz/Gakpo, Wirtz and Mo

It means making a big sacrifice for our off the ball shape though and breaking up what was arguably our strongest unit last season. Perhaps for some games though, depending on the opposition.

Left sided 10 (with Kerkez providing the width) allows Wirtz to operate in the same part of the pitch as he does for Leverkusen and Germany.
