Nobody is writing the guy off. He's clearly an extremely skillful and talented player with enormous potential.

Our midfield three of Grav, Szlobo and Macallister won us the league, had great chemistry. We've not played that trio this season for a few reasons, right back injuries requiring Szlobo to play there, Macallister not being fully fit, and Wirtz being accommodated. But all of them are fit now and I reckon last year's midfield three is still our strongest three. If we force Wirtz into the side it is currently to our detriment, imho, and that's what the 'liability' comment means. And as the team isn't quite clicking, I'd play him from the bench for a few games and see how that goes.

    Some more then:

    Crosses 3 (accurate 0)
    Ground duels 9 (won 3)
    Aerial duels 1 (won 0)
    Possession lost 13
    Interceptions 0
    Tackles 0

There's a lot to work on, particularly without the ball.

Id like to see him get more ball around the box and better if he’s facing towards goal or on the half turn already.

I have given him nothing but mild critiques. The two 'hyperbolic' critiques you mention (not from me) are from one post and lacked context.

his passing was dismal and he was bullied off the ball far to easily. He's more of a liability than benefit still and he needs to improve soon or share his game time.
Completely mild stuff, not writing him off whatsoever, nothing crazy or extreme. I gave you 'actual' extreme reactionary posts aimed at me to my nothings in this thread. You said they were all balanced... just sayin.

People can go a bit wild in the footie forums

I thought he'd made a step in the second half against Burnley with Szob alongside him - he looked alert, creative and was really trying to drive us forward.

Atleti is another situation altogether, they're absolute kings at what they do and have been doing it successfully for 14 years, so in isolation, that isn't a fair game to assess him on.

At worst, it looks like he needs a split second on the ball more than the Prem will allow him, but that's environmental and he'll adapt. At best, he's not hiding, he's demanding the ball and looking to push forward every time he picks it up.

There's something in the physicality thing, but for me it's more around he looks fatigued mentally and physically just before he comes off, so mistakes are made. That is likely colouring perception as much as anything.

Look at Gravenberch. Look at players like Henry, Bergkamp. Sometimes it takes more than 5 games to show. And there is more than enough evidence that he’s got the talent his timing on the ball ability to play a pass even in the clip above shows that he is far better than Elliot.

    He hasn't even been bad

The fair-weathers just look at goals and assists as a metric these days.

I'm sure he'll be fine he's a fabulous talent but also not immune from criticism & god forbid the dreaded constructive criticism.
    Fair

But equally be fair when commenting.. ' he's been very poor' on Sunday was a long way from reality.
