Yeah we were good. We had periods of dominance but we couldn’t put them to the sword & after our disallowed goal they dominated possession until HT. We certainly had more chances than themOriginally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostCertainly not the result I expected. Could have been 0-0 I guess. I didn't watch - were we any good?Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Well that was an unexpected result!
Looks like there were some good chances at both ends but both keepers were at the top of their game.
I loved that Wirtz went down - the foul had been commited and Wirtz going down like a sake of spuds ensured VAR had to get involved to see it.
Isak is very **** and I have no idea why we signed him - I'd rather we had gone for a grok like player that bullies defenders, Mateta would have been better."We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies."

Just watched the highlights - we did look pretty sharp in creating chances. Really didn't expect that result, but very pleased for it!
Really?

Once we spent big on ekitike there was some talk about mateta, he would have been a sound, solid 2nd striker.Originally posted by DerKrampus View PostWell that was an unexpected result!

Isak seems a flop, not sure where his talent has gone, and can't keep saying its cos of no preseason, ffs!removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

It's still early days to call him a flop. Let's see how he does when we get the wingbacks putting good quality crosses into the box.Originally posted by baitman View PostOnce we spent big on ekitike there was some talk about mateta, he would have been a sound, solid 2nd striker.

That's a good point and it was noticeable last night that Gomez was sending in crosses to try and take advantage of having two 9's on the pitch.
Think that has been a big flaw in our play in our play this season in that up until the last four games we persisted with attackers that kept cutting in and had our full backs sitting deeper, so no matter which 9 started he was going to be starved of service.
The last few games we have been getting crosses in and also having a runner from midfield trying to get up to support the 9 when there is only one on the pitch, or going up to split the 9s when we have both on.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

100% we aren't getting enough crosses or quality crosses should I say, into the box or even slide passes between their fullbacks and Cbs. You want strikers to thrive, give them service.
In saying that Ekitike is trying to make things happen and doing his best to get involved. Isak much like Wirtz has looked pretty anonymous since signing and we have to admit that they've been very disappointing. I'm willing to cut them some slack until we get our **** together but both have been pretty awful up until this point and they need to start contributing more.

Wirtz was good last night after he came on. He was not going any flashy stuff but play knitted together very well any time he was involved as he can be given the ball in very tight spaces and he will get it to a team mate more often than not after. His ability to do that also prevented some of the getting the ball in an advanced position then passing it 30 yards backwards stuff that we can be prone to doing.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

100% agreed with this - it was very noticeable how much more fluid and vertical we were once he came on and play started to go through him.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostWirtz was good last night after he came on. It got us up the pitch more quickly and effectively, and helped midfield connect with the forwards better
Was impressive

Decent performance overall from us but:
1 Inter were poor and didn't try to take advantage of our weaknesses. (Our formation helped but Englush teams know they need to play on Konate, look for second balls at corners, and get in behind our midfield). I was amazed that they did noy seem able to increase the intensity when they fell behind;
2 it was worrying how far Inter's players were able to run with the ball down the xentre of the pitch in the first half particularly. Maybe this is the point that Slit was making about our press being too deep in the first half; and
3 Isak looked completely out of his depth. He worked hard defensively but nothing ever stuck to him. The contrast with Ekitike and Wirtz was striking.
You can't do any better than win, but I think although there are some greenshoots of a recovery there remains a ling way to go.

Wirtz hasn’t looked anonymous though, he’s been our best forward player in many games. He’s been way better than Isak and is still adjusting to a new league/country/cultureOriginally posted by danperkins View Post100% we aren't getting enough crosses or quality crosses should I say, into the box or even slide passes between their fullbacks and Cbs.
