Does anyone know how he is doing this season? It would be interesting to know as we obviously rated him what with us getting a buy back clause and all. I think he would have been challenging Finnan this season if he had stayed.

He`s played 11 games so far, with 1 goal and 3 yellow card.
Or at least that`s what I found out.

was a bit surprised to see him go, thought at the time we were trying to raise extra finance for Alves.

We shouldn't have let him go.

I'm sure had he known Kromkamp was off and it was just him and Finnan for RB he'd have stayed.

Id say there is a buy back clause in the contract

I'm pretty sure I heard about a buy back clause, but he was homesick.

He was homesick, and he was also being a bit of a primadonna. Also, his dad confronted Rafa when he wasn't in the squad for the WCC in Japan last year, which didn't go down well. There were more than just football reasons behind the decision to let him go on loan.

Not a bad player, he has done reasonably well at La Coruna so far.

He's not on loan, he's just mistaken, definite sale with the option to buy back in 2008.

For all intents and purposes it's a kind of glorified two year loan. It's supposed to be quite common in Spain. We "sell" him with a buy back clause written into the contract. In two years time we have the option of buying him back for the price set in the contract. They can't sell him on, or at least not without giving us the option of taking him back. If we don't buy him back in 2008, he's their's to do what they like with.

At least, that's my understanding from all the news items when we let him go.

theres no saying he'll want to tho, after playing first team football in spain, and thats the danger if he was homesick already

True. He could simply turn round and choose not to discuss terms with us, thus completely scuppering the transfer back.

But then again, he was very young (he was 17 when we got him, wasn't he?). By 2008 he may have matured a bit and got a bit more self assurance.

Let's face it, we aren't going to know until summer 2008. Let's hope we get back one of the best young right backs in the business.
