Or loan him to Celtic, then he is in a win win situation, I doubt Celtic would have any of it though.Originally posted by looprevil View PostCan't we sign the little ****face and loan him back to Hamilton? That wraps this transfer story up for another year so.McCarthy rejects Liverpool move
Hamilton midfielder James McCarthy
James McCarthy has broken into the Hamilton first-team
James McCarthy has rejected a move to Liverpool that could have earned Hamilton Accies £1m for the 16-year-old midfielder, his agent has claimed.
Celtic, Rangers, Reading, Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in McCarthy.
Agent Bill McMurdo told The Sun: "Liverpool wanted to take him to Italy for a tournament last week.
"They agreed to meet Hamilton's asking price, which would have earned them around £1m if James made the grade."
McCarthy has made 24 appearances for First Division outfit Accies after breaking into the first-team at New Douglas Park.
"Sheffield United were also desperate to sign him and said they would put him straight into their reserve side," added McMurdo.
"They said he would be in the first team within a year.
"Reading and Spurs were also after James, while here, Rangers and Celtic are interested.
"But he has decided that he wants to stay with Hamilton for another year.
"I can't fault his judgement. He has only just left school and is from a close family.
"If he feels happier waiting for another season then that is the right thing to do."Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

I doubt that his agent would tie him up in that way, I would like to think we have first option, and I think we are favorites along with Celtic still.Originally posted by thesilverfoxlfc View PostSurely someone has him tied up to a first refusal thingy

I agree about it being possible to have too many youngsters in the team at once.Originally posted by bazza76 View PostI too would like to see the three lads getting played.
But there is a point to be made about having too many youth team players in the side as three of them did get a run out plus the youth cup final wasnt so long ago, in which Linfield was involved in.
Anderson seems to be paying the price for inconsistent displays this season, has been playing well lately, but I recok its the reason El Zahar is getting in ahead of him. As for Hobbs, I think Rafa was always going to give Paletta the nod ahead of him. Playing the two of them would not have made much sense as neither is experienced and will learn from the other.
I also don't see that much point in playing any youngsters one off if there is no intention of giving them some sort of run in the first team. Due to the Youth cup final a lot of the young players would have had Fulham as their only first team game, whereas Palleta has now had a couple of games and may well feature again against Charlton. I feel sorry for Hobbs though as from all the reserve team reports I hear he has done at least as well as Paletta. Both players should be loaned out until at least January next year in my opinion."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Wasn't there an interview with Anderson a while back where he said that he had been inconsistant this year mainly due to his injury and only recently felt he had got his form back?Originally posted by SCOUSERTOMMY View Postthe point is that very few of these lads are given a look in, the only ones to have a looksie are el zahr and palletta and insua or what ever the **** his name is. fact , paul anderson for 2 years has played very well for the ressies and hasent had a sniff. thats the point."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think Rafa should have played more of these guys by now, at least in the Carling Cup. The way I see it, the problem we have is time - we do not have the time to bed these players in as every single result is so important.Originally posted by thesilverfoxlfc View PostIve high hopes for Hobbs and Anderson but there not getting a chance to shine. Reserve league is ****e they might as well be playing in a Sunday League.
Maybe that is where Arsenal have a different philosophy - this season they have suffered but they will benefit IMO in the longer term by giving these excellent young players the first team league experience.
Perhaps Liverpool should have a smaller reserve squad with a handful of experienced bench warmers and the best young players ready to push their way into the first team squad.
Is there an argument for scaling down our youth set-up and signing the very best young players from other clubs? Like the Scum did with Rooney and Arsenal to a lesser extent with Walcott."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Reserve team plays in leagues 3 & 4, no further promotion allowed
Feeder team in another country, but moving abroad can be a real downer for young lads.
Loans - this is where I think we can benefit, we could loan the best 5/6/7 to one club (league 3 or 4) for one year, this gives our best youngsters/reserves the chance to prove themselves, it would save the smaller club a **** load of money in wages, and puts the players in the shop window should they deemed not quite good enough for us. You can put caveats in place, ie we can not use the same club 2 years running, the club can only play x amount of on-loans per match, they cannot be drawn against each other in cup matches, etc, etc.
There is no doubt we need a better feeder system, maybe a smaller club in the Scottish league perhaps, lock, stock & barrel.

Don't know if this has been posted, but he ain't coming here for a year at least.
Sought-after youngster James McCarthy is set to snub the overtures of top Premiership and SPL sides to stay with Hamilton.
The highly-rated 16-year-old has attracted the interest of a host of clubs after making the breakthrough at Hamilton.
McCarthy has enjoyed training spells at Liverpool and Reading in the last year, while Sheffield United along with Scottish duo Celtic and Rangers have all expressed an interest in the prodigious talent.
However, the teenage midfielder has decided to reject the chance to move on and has opted to stay at Hamilton for a further year to continue his football education.
McCarthy's agent Bill McMurdo confirmed the youngster had decided to stay at Hamilton for one more season before deciding whether or not to move on to a bigger club.
"James has decided to stay on at Hamilton for another season despite the great interest in him," McMurdo told skysports.com
"It is a brave decision by him but he feels he is not ready at his age to move to a bigger club.
"He believes he will benefit more by staying at Hamilton and by playing regular first team football.
"He has a lot of confidence that if he waits before moving he will be more ready for it then.
"Liverpool and Reading both had him down to train with them and I know Rafa Benitez was extremely keen on him.
"He was keen to sign him and he was ready to put him straight into their reserve side.
"The same goes for Sheffield United as they were really keen on him too.
"Reading also expressed an interest and Celtic and Rangers were keeping tabs on him.
"But after much thought James has decided to stay at Hamilton for another year and he believes it is the right thing to do."
