Alves is nothing more than a pipe dream. Our only hope was to sign him this summer gone. His value has soeared since so we can forget about him.

Sadly it does seem that way. Same thing happened with David Villa. Imagine if we'd got both of them...

Pennant has been pretty **** this season, so have other players. He is under more scrutiny and pressure to perform than anyone else in our team. As a result he is finding it difficult to settle in and play with confidence. He'll only play well if he stops feeling so apprehensive. Part of that means the rest of the team playing well together, and part of it means the fans not being ready to pounce on his every slight error. He's doing everything he can to raise his game, anyone can see that.

To call him potentially the biggest waste of cash ever at this stage is unfair. Wait until the fear has left him and he's settled a bit, then we can judge him better. He may not be the classy, threatening wide player we're looking for, but he may yet prove a valuable squad member who can produce one accurate cross after another for our strikers to get onto.

Imo,he hasn't delivered.Very bad buy.Money is a bit tight,but i would rather of spent the money on a world class right sided player,rather than on Kuyt.

Don't get me wrong,because i really like Kuyt.But with the money we spent on him and pennant,a world class right winger could of been signed,which i feel, was our 1st priority.

Gonzalez is playing worse than Pennant, the difference is he didn't have any baggage with him. Also he has scored a few goals which has glossed over his ****ty games.

Yes Gonzalez hasn't set the world on fire but he's young and adapting to a new league and country. Not easy. Plus he's already shown more in 2 games this season than Pennant has in 6 months.

On KT I said that people were falling for the hype over Gonzalez. Yes he looked a good player in Spain, but so did Morientes.

Still he has a chance to make it. Pennant clearly doesn't. That's the difference.

Is Pennant the biggest waste of money,ever?

I mean,there has been Diouf and diao,cheyrou and diomede.Even,some would say Heskey and Kewell(of which i would disagree with).

I personally think pennant is a really bad buy.Not his fault mind you,but,FFS,our weakness is and has been for the last few years our right side.

We used Gerrard there last season,because we didn't have anyone else half as good to play there.I personally want to see Gerrard in the middle of the park,there isn't anyone in world football better than him.

Our left side,is really quite strong.but on the right?

Finnan is a reallly good,consistent player but a full back needs to chip in with a few goals a season imo.

Riise on the other side,i wouldn't swap him for anyone.I really like the lad and think that every season he just gets better and better.Defensively this season he has been superb.

Getting back to the original point,Pennant was signed as the answer to our problem on the right,someone that would make chances for others and score a few goals aswell,just like C Ronaldo, Robben,J Cole and Van Persie do for their respective teams.

The same thing happened with Houllier after the 01-02 season when we finished 2nd,and all we needed was a left sided winger and a striker to really push us on and challenge for the title the next year. Cheyrou and Diouf were signed as the players that would take us forward and Anelka was released.Imo,Anelka would of become a great player for us.

I think we have gone backwards big time, and also feel that if we don't manage to sign a decent right winger in january,were gonna have to win the champions league again to qualify for it again next year!

I'm just pissed off with people writing off our players after a few months at the club. Give the players untill the end of the season, before crucifying them.

Not all players settle in immidiately. The fact that Pennant has played in the EPL means nothing. He's finding it difficult to adjust to Liverpool. Give him your support.

He has the ability to play a more than usefull role for us, but I fear that the negativity from the fans can destroy that chance

Pennant has undoubtedly been very disappointing. Personally I just do not see the attributes that will ever make him league-winning quality, or think he will ever entirely justify his fee. But the "biggest waste of money" stuff is just silly, and defied by simple mathematics.

Pennant cost us £7m top. Now even if he is totally rubbish all season, which is by no means a given, a Fulham or Man City will easily give us c.£2.5m for him. Diao we lost £5m flat (plus 5 years massive wages), Diouf we lost about £8m on, and I dread to think what we'll lose on Cisse - all of them are therefore bigger wastes of money than Pennant could ever be.

And as for not buying Kuyt & him... which "world class" winger are you postulating we should have bought exactly? Alves? Is the new Van Der Vaart (Kt c.2004). Simao? Not that good. Who else where we actually interested in? Kuyt was one of the best bits of business done by any club in the summer, the mythical £15m superstar foreign winger might just as easily have been ****e in England, and then where would we be?

Pennant may not have been the ideal signing, or be playing in an ideal fashion at all, but we've got him now. Rafa has proven with players like Morientes, Josemi and Nunez that he'll play them and support them during the season.... and ship them out if they don't take the chances they were given to perform. we should trust that'll be the same with Pennant and get behind the lad rather than becoming part of the problem.
