If a decent offer came in for Crouch..

    ...would you consider selling?

We supposedly bought him in a £7m deal - but that probably includes wages etc. So if an offer came in of around £8m-£10m would you consider it good business and do the deal - and use the money to buy a replacement like Darren Bent?

I've thought about this for a few days now - and if it was up to me I'd say "yes". I know he's our top scorer - and I know he's miles better than most people gave him credit for before Rafa bought him - but I'd still do the deal. The main reason I'd do it is because of pace - or lack of.

Yesterday we looked so much more potent with Bellamy running the channels and with a ball over the top option. I know at home there's less space to use pace but you can still use it to your advantage.

I'm not anti-Crouch as such, I'm just weighing up people's opinion and seeing if they compare to my own. So, any takers?

No, he's a very important player for us.
We'd probably only realise how good he was when he's gone ala Didi Hamann.

I would sell him for that price if the money was then spent on a good right winger like Alves.

We would probably play 4-5-1 with a good right winger in the team so we wouldn't need more than three strikers.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I think you would have to consider it. I like Crouch but to evolve our team we need to get some pace into our attack. The players we bought in to do that in midfield have struggled and with Gonzalez injured our options suddenly seem very limited. So the logical choice is to give Bellamy the nod upfront, which squeezes Crouch down the pecking order and if you can get good money for a substitute then you have to consider it.

I would however keep Crouch unless we needed the money to bring in a specific and quality, pacy goalscoring attacking midfield player.

              No Deal!

Not at that price. But if the Banker offered 15m then I'd deal.

I agree in principle that he is limited and can be one dimentional but he offers a threat that complements our other strikers and it is the results we can get with a 'plan B' that make him worth more than 8-10m (I reckon Bent would cost more like 12-14).

If we had a Dario Srna at RB or a Beckham at RM then Crouch would score as many as VanHorse did and we are likely to get such a player by next season.

Plus Crouch is a thoughroughly decent bloke and is good for team morale - which, so we are told, is delicate in Cisse's absence.
It's my job to handle life and death situations on a daily basis. It's what I do, and I'm very good at it.

I'd sell for anything above £5m.

The team morale argument is something I hadn't thought about, but you are right. Maybe one of the lessons of this season is that the off field aspects of a squad can be a very important factor on the pitch.

I'd keep him he brings something different to the team and teams hate playing against him...pace isn't an issue really as we have Bellamy.

I wouldn't sell him for £8m - £10m. I think he's our best striker still. Bellamy obviously has more pace but Crouch offers plenty himself. He holds the ball up very well, is a pretty decent finisher & he'll always cause problems in the air. I know i'm in the minority but I prefer Crouch to Kuyt. I think what we need is another pacy striker to replace Robbie. Kuyt & Crouch do lack pace as a pair and without pace upfront we are easy to defend against. Teams can push up the pitch knowing they won't be done for pace. Wigan held a high line yesterday & bellamy exploited the space with his pace. Neither Crouch nor Kuyt can do that.

So you'd sell our topscorer for £5mil + ? Who would you replace him with for £5m + ?

It's a tough one really that depends on two factors.

Although he's had a really good 12 months in terms of scoring, playing well and establishing himself in the England set up, I still can't see any team - especially in England - who would bid £8-10m for him.

You would also have to look at the options available too I guess. For that sort of money, who is better than Peter Crouch? Possibly Jermain Defoe, as Darren Bent will cost £10m+, but whilst Defoe is probably a better striker, he doesn't bring as much to the team as Crouch in my opinion.

He's not particularly quick, not great in the air, and not the greatest finisher either. Also his hold up play isn't a patch on Crouch's. I not saying i'd sell Kuyt as he's still settling in but if I had to sell either him or Crouch, i'd keep Crouch every time.
