    Selling Xabi Alonso

Are people ****ing nuts? I mean that would be suicidal, i've seen it mentioned quite a bit of late on LFC forums and i'm stunned at the suggestion.
Sure he's hasn't been the Xabi we knew and loved of last season but he's coming back into form i reckon(before his injury he was anyway),
he's a bloody brilliant player and one we should be gratefeul to have,
    a joy to watch.

I don't agree with this bull**** he's not suited to the EPL, i disagree entirely, the lad puts himself about all game long, never shirks a challenge and generally isn't afarid to mix it, not his main strength of course,
his pssing, touch, awareness and compusure is what he's all about but 9 times out a 10 he's not found wanting in the dirtier side of the game.

Sell Xabi? You're having a ****ing laugh.

He's a very shrewd palyer who will get better with age...

He may not be the most mobile but the plus side is it won't affect him as he gets older as he'll still be as slow!!

Best passer in the League by a country mile....has game intelligence few other players can match.

    Madness to consider selling him.

I wouldn't sell Xabi, not even for £30m.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I see Xabi as a big part of the team that we cannot do without, no way would i sell him.

I wouldn't want to sell Xabi but every player has his price. If someone offered over £15m, then I'd seriously consider it. If SG is to play CM, then surely our 1st pick midfield is SG with Momo. Alonso is a class act but in truth he's always looked better in Europe than in the league.

Not that i'm one who'd wanna sell Xabi Alonso, but it's refreshing to see someone who can see past the one-dimensional fact that Alonso is indeed a good player. Good players dont always make the best team, it's about the blend and the mix.

I'd sell him for 20 million and buy Cahill for 15 million leaving us with 5 million to spend on Matthew Upson

If this boils down to a choice between Momo and Alonso, which it should not really, it is Alonso all the way for me.
A proper footballer and very intelligent playmaker. Momo is more of an enforcer, who I think would be easier to replace. All hypothetical speaking of course.

I'd rather sell Sissoko than Alonso.

I agree with you. Xabi is one of the best ball winners in the league and one of the best passers in the World.

To get the best out of both Xabi & SG, we need Momo in the side. To do this we need width given by Wingbacks : Riise and Alves. Then we need another goalscorer alongside Kuyt.

So Alves + a goalscoring striker in the window (Villa?) with a hard tackling mobile CMer as back-up (Parker / Mascherano / Nolan / Barton) would do me.

                          I'd rather sell neither

Cheers mate. Too many on here play 'Championship Manager' with players for LFC. Its not about players being good or even great players, its about getting players who fit into the system that Rafa wants to play. there are loads of really good players who for whatever reason don't do the business at a particular team. I think veron is perhaps the ultimate example of this. Nobody can doubt his ability but for whatever reason he never looked the part for Man Utd. Ballack & Shevchenko seem in the same boat at the moment. 2 great players who are yet to show anything like their best form. They may in time produce the goods but equally they may not. For me, neither is being played in a system that really suits them. Square pegs in round holes, & we've had our fair share of them at LFC in recent years.

                              Agree Bob.

I think people misunderstand and think i want Alonso sold, or that i dont rate him. Neither is true.

What i want however, is for us to field the best TEAM.

Gerrard needs to play central for me, and Sissoko is fast becoming our 2nd most important player, after Stevie. Both of them are crucial.

For Alonso to also feature in the first team, it means a change of system and i'm not sure if Rafa's likely to do that. The best solution would be to find a system that combines the three of them, but how likely that is, i'm not too sure.
