Blatter wants summer league games

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has proposed changing the fixture schedule of European leagues so that the season runs through the summer months.
Blatter told Germany's Kicker magazine that the season should begin in late February and end in November.

He said: "I've just proposed to the clubs: play through the summer.

"This would leave enough time for players to recover and there could be blocks of three weeks of national teams' qualifying games in winter."

Blatter added: "This idea is supported by big European clubs."

And to further ease fixture congestion, Blatter believes there should be more European groups with fewer teams for World Cup qualifying.

He feels this would mean fewer games for national teams as urged by leading clubs.

Personaly i think its a good idea & means i might go to more games.

I would assume that is because there are very few internationals playing in them leagues. I would also have to assume that the world cup and Euro Championships would be moved to winter?.

Nope, there are internationals playing in all the leagues.
In addition to the lengthy winter break, there is a summer break for a few weeks as well to accommodate World Cup and Euro Championships.

When that is said, there are far more teams and matches in the Premiership, so this would probably have to be slimmed down in order to fit into this schedule...

I know the leagues in Scandanavia, as in Russia, play through Spring to Autumn because of the weather, they can't play in winter. The IRish league tries to minimize competition with the Premier League, cos that's so popular there.

I wouldn't like to see English leagues playing through the Summer, but it wouldn't be too horrible here. I find it really hard to believe that any club from the MEditerranean is going to support playing in July and August.

Blatter is such a tosspot. He just wants to tinker to show he's a big man.

Why don't they just start getting rid of

a) totally meaningless International friendlies
b) totally meaningless International qualifiers which include teams as San Marino, Moldovia etc (no offense to any residents of these countries)
c) have rounds in International qualifiers like in the CL where **** teams basically have to qualify to play against seeded, better teams

Sometimes you really do wonder about these thickos.

I agree about the friendlies, but San Marino, Moldova and Wales have just as much a right to play in International Tournaments as our non league clubs have to play in the FA Cup.
