    It's funny, but against Wigan he turned and hit a crossfield pass, and the bodyshape and movement immediately reminded me of Stevie G.



    Early days, but we must be due for another youngster or two to start breaking through.

      He looked good when he came on against Portsmouth last Wednesday (unlike Nabil El Zhar) and didn't seem out of place at all. I'm looking forward to seeing him again tonight.

      But what's happened to Paul Anderson? Wasn't he meant to be the next one from the reserves or youth team to push on to the 1st team squad?

        If he makes the breakthrough will he become a folk hero ala Carra, Fowler and Stevie G or someone that we liked but never had the same relationship with like Owen cause he played for Manure youth team.
        I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

          Well i'd like to think he'd get the same affection them 3 players you mentioned get from the Liverpool fans, don't see why not, can't see why Danny being at Utd till he was 13 have a bearing on things.
          Think Owen just went for trials at Utd but decided he didn't it wasn't the place for him.

            No I am not on about Owen having trials at Manure (I didn't know he did) , I am on the fans never loved Owen like the local lads. It's also cause Guthrie is born in Shrewsbury as well.

              I don't recall him from the youth cup. I am judging him based on how he's played in the first team. I just really like the kid. I think he's a real prospect.

              I'm not one of those who calls every kid a great prospect. I've been quite unimpressed with many of the kids who have broken through in previous years eg Potter etc.

              But I've been very impressed with both Peltier and Guthrie. Guthrie playing in centre mid has come into a Liverpool team and behaved like he'd been playing there for years, like he belonged there. And while he was at it, he didn't put a foot wrong either.

              Time will tell but I'll certainly be watching him with interest. I don't think Stevie G comparisons are fair. It heaps too much pressure on hype on a youngster who needs time to develop and make mistakes.

              I reckon he'll make it though, even if he doesn't make it here given the competition he has to get into the first team. Time will tell. But I'm looking forward to how he plays against European opposition.

                I have only seen him a couple of times on I like him, looks a stronger lad than Potter as well. Talking about Potter he can't get into the Wolves squad and they are ****.

                  Am i missing something? What's the problem in him coming from Shrewsbury?

                    I never rated Potter at all I'm afraid.

                    I think one thing that we'll be thanking Rafa for in many years time is what he's done in the last few years building the youth team. There's a lot of quality young players beginning to beg some questions.

                    A couple of years ago only sentimentality could seriously call for any of the kids to get a game.

                    When only Gerrard was fit the other day, we played Carra midfield but I'd have been just as confident if Guthrie had got the step up.

                    Says a lot.

                            Yeah about an hour away from Liverpool I think, I am happy that he is coming on. He is talking how happy he is that he's at a Liverpool rather than Owen who as soon as he made his debut for us was talking about England.

                                I think he did well for the 65 minutes he was on. He looked to be quite composed on the ball and played at least a couple of excellent balls through to Bellamy.

                                Anyone else think he looks and runs like Steve Finnan? On 2 or 3 occasions last night I was asking myself what the hell is Finnan doing playing Left Midfield.
