    Agger need beefing up

and quickly. Very good prospect is our Danny and will turn inot a Liverpool legend in the future i reckon, great on the eye etc but a centre half's job is ultimately to snuff out the oppositions attack and Agger was found wanting a
    little in that respect tonight.
A little too easily knocked off the ball and outmuscled on many occasions.

Paletta on the other hand needs what Agger has in abundance - a little bit of composure on the ball but is pyhsically very strong and capable,
roll them into one and you've got the perfect centre half.

Get Agger on the weights for 4 or 5 months till he gets a bit of upper body strength he lacks at present.

Paletta looked shocking pre season and every game he's played so far. His positioning looks awful and he seems to have the footballing awareness off my mother.
Agger on the other hand looks like a fab prospect.

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Yes, as soon as he's like those **** houses Hansen and Lawro the better.

In four months time you'll be bemoaning his pace (after your weights regime). :whatever:

Mark, a footballer can not do what you're proposing. They monitor a player's weight every week for a reason. If Agger put on a stone of weight we'd be ruling him out for two months or more. I've put on half a stone since September and i can feel that when i'm playing.

The game was not important tonight and that showed in Agger's game (and half the wretched team). Next.

To be fair a proper weights program would not sow Agger down. I am manager of a Gealic Fotball team in Ireland and our sports sciencist assure me that a player can gain strentgh without loosing pace. If fact a proper plyometrics program can help a player to gain speed.

          Really?
I'd give anything for a bit a pace, not a bad oul player but painfully slow on it
          Welcome btw!!

Depends on where the weight is added. I'm sure LFC would adhere to a proper footballing weights programme.

With all due respect Gaelic Football is nothing like normal football. Upper body strength is more important in Gaelic football, not so much so in normal football, where you are expected to cover *more* ground.

What i'm saying is a weights gain programme is a long term/summer activity(pre-season).

Bob, surely you'd agree though he's a touch on the light side, ok maybe he wasn't going flat out the night as he didn't need to as we were already through but i've noticed him getting outmuscled quite a few times
              this season.

I'm not slagging the guy off, he's been one of few bright sparks for us this season and is turning into a big favourite of mine, all i'm saying is he could do with toughing up a notch imo of courre.

And that will come over his career. He doesn't need dropping from the team to bulk up.

I can knock off 20 stone players off the ball with a shoulder tackle (i'm 11 stone-ish). Bulk is not so much of an issue with players in the EPL - the last thing i want to see is Lindon Primus types on our back-line, FFS.

Too right. I've put on two stone in the last 6 months through 5 times a week weights and eating as much as I can, and my cardio is ****ed. I've gone from being able to play wide/like a Stevie in the middle to having to either play sweeper or sitting midfield, like a more athletic Alonso, and after every run I have to give myself a breather! Really need to start doing some cardio but can't be arsed as I still want to put on about another stone & a half.

Best to let Agger grow at pretty much his own pace and not try and stick loads of muscle on him all at once.

                      Sorry, that alluded to that...

He's on weights consistently for the record.

Weight gain in footie is a very slow process. ****ing hell, two pounds can have a massive effect on you (not like i count them or anything - really - i dont). I'm gonna have to put in some serious miles soon, i'm dreading it.

Football alone is causing me some serious pain at the mo.

Bit of a mix up Bob me old mucker, just making an observation mate, noticed recently our Danny gets knocked of the ball a tad to easily, in saying that
he'll fill out over time and become a Liverpool great, i'm sure of it.
Think i might get his name on the yellow away jersey.

As has been said, I'm sure he's already using weights as part of his training regime.

A properly structured plan will see him gain strength and probably speed too.

Anyhow, artist's impression of Daniel Agger yesterday...
