Blimey they'll be no old school left soon. Soon it'll be us fans from the boot room era... "sorry lads you're old fashioned..time to move on

How I miss standing in the Kop as a lad and marvelling at the banter and getting swept away on a tide of emotion..Heighway was and still is a great hero. Bluenoses 2 up Heighway bursts down the wing, skins the defence 1:2 ..two each thanks to Tosh then Chrissy Lawler stabs in a late winner ahh what dreams are made of...

I lived for those moments ..Istanbul. And we're still bloody doing it thanks to our tradition

      Let's not forget our history.

      Steve Heighway ..Superstar..he deserves respect.
I agree but we need to look to the future, emotions should not stand in the way of progress

I doubt we'd be going in for Bale, considering we just spent half a mill on an Argentinian left back.
They've won the league, bigger stars than Dallas, they've got more silver than Buckhingham Palace, no one knows quite what to expect, when the Red Machine's in full effect!

For being a great player - he was probably my first hero - but he hasn't exactly set the world on fire as head of the academy has he?

20M for two Southampton players, one of which is a reserve? I don't think so.

I can't see us going for Bale anyways. We have Riise who is first choice and unless someone absolutely spectacular comes in, that ain't going to change. We have an experienced player in Aurelio as backup and we've just brought in an Argie U-21 left-back in Insua.

thats pretty much what i thought as he said it. i suspect the figure was at the very least speculative - not the end of the market where these 2 fellows operate - but take the interest as genuine

proof of the pudding mate - hes done a bad job simple as that - no lfc player since gerard has cracked the 1st team. time for someone else to have a go.

yes hes a "great" (first lfc player i ever saw score, my original favourite player so has a special place in my heart) and yes he deserves to be treated respectfully. to my eyes he is being. other clubs with less class and respect would have had him out on his ear some time ago.

I'm sure if it was to be that high a figure then like Walcott the initial payment would be much less and much of the fee dependent on our/his success. I'm sure the figure is a guess but it's not as ridiculous when looked at in these terms.

I was at that Heighway-inspired derby win (late 1970?). Also, there were only 20 minutes to go when Heighway got the first - and I believe it was Tosh's first goal for the club. The greatest derby of modern times and the Kop the loudest it's ever been - including the Chelsea CL semi.

Younger people have no idea how big a star Heighway was. In the post George Best era he the best dribbler in the league and was such a phenomenon, coming straight from non-league Skelmersdale into Liverpool's first team, that there was even a BBC Panorama documentary dedicated to him.

In an era of overpaid prima donnas it's remarkable for me to recall that Heighway came to my Liverpool school's end-of-year prize giving to hand out A-level certificates to the likes of yours truly. He gave a very articulate speech, had time for everyone and was a credit to his profession - this when he was as big a superstar as the English game had to offer at the time. Naming no names, but can you imagine any of our current squad doing the same now?

20 million should go close to buying Southampton

Bale would probably cost almost the same as Walcott and he costed £12m. McGoldrick is also very highly rated(if it's him we want) and if you add him to the price then you would have to pay something like £20m.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I have the same feeling about Heighway and Souness. Brilliant players, but that's it.

Not everybody that is a Brilliant player has the ability to pass on their knowledge and experience. In fact very few Brilliant players, have gone on to have a Good career after playing

Heighway has been at the academy for a long time, he's had plenty support and has failed to produce the goods. I'm all for keeping Local content in the squad and the Bootroom, but if you are not Good enough, then You are Not good enough.

Can`t we just buy their entire youth set-up? Sounds a lot better than ours.
