But it's completely irrelevant whether he would have scored or not. A foul meriting a penalty is not dependent on whether the player would have scored or, for that matter, was running away from the goal or looked like running it out of play. The fact that it occurred withing the penalty area is enough. The Laws of the Game are quite explicit on this. In fact the prescence of the ball is irrelevant in some cases. If the ball is at one end of the pitch and a defender whacks an opposition player in the other penalty area, it's a penalty, plain and simple.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostAnyone watching this, Chris Kamara just been looking at the penalty we had turned down, and said that the ref was right, it wasn't a penalty because Kuyt wouldn't have scored.
I don't think I've ever heard a bigger dickhead who's so into his opinions that he thinks he can re-write the football rule book.
Whether it was a penalty or not certainly wasn't down to if his crystal ball could see Kuyt's shot going in or not.

I don't think you can get a more clear cut penalty than the one we didn't get in the first half.
Can someone inform Rennie that he is a football ref and not a handball ref
Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
