Neill copped it...and now could Kop it.

NEILL COPPED IT.. AND NOW COULD KOP IT
    By David Anderson

BLACKBURN are ready to sell Lucas Neill to Liverpool after Ewood Park fans turned on the Rovers skipper.

They were angry Neill has kept the captain's armband, despite his determination to quit the club.

The Australia defender's performances have dipped recently and supporters vented their fury during Saturday's home defeat to Newcastle.

Rovers boss Mark Hughes hoped making Neill skipper might persuade him to stay until the summer, when his contract expires.

He now accepts it would be better to cash in on the full-back in the January transfer window and will want £1million plus Liverpool's Stephen Warnock in exchange.

Liverpool refused to pay Rovers' asking price of £2m plus midfielder Warnock in August and feel their bargaining position is stronger now because Neill, 28, has just six months left on his contract.

Anfield boss Rafael Benitez wants the former Millwall man to provide competition for Steve Finnan at right-back.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I would be surprised if Rafa will make a move for Neill in January. If the takeover happens then he can probably sign a much better right back than him.

Exactly - how good is he? Have not seen enough of him. Finnan is top drawer in any case - one of the few defenders we have in the team!

How much do you think Warnock is worth? 2 million maybe? More? So the deal according to this would be around 3 million for Lucas Neill whose contract will be up in the summer :whatever:

If the takeover takes place i expect Rafa to go for Gary Neville.

To be honest if we go for Neill it will either be as a short term measure or as he thinks he can replace Sami in the middle for next year. Earlier in the season I thought we needed cover/competition for Finnan but I Peltier has done well enough when he has come in.

Rafa seems to want attacking fullbacks ideally, which is what leads me to believe Neill would be coming with an eye to eventually putting him at CB.

I think Neill will still be pursued as he covers all of the back line. He is a good player and although he is has caused injuries to a couple of our players is a well respected defender. Barca and Ac Milan both want him as well so he must have something about him.

I think he would be good in the backline as he is a solid and hard defender - so should scare silly some of the woofters in the forward lines at other clubs. He can play across the whole back line, he has at least 5+ years left in him and would be another attacking defender.

Worth the investment, I think blackburn are dreaming if they think that they can get Warnock + 1M for him when he leaves for free in six months.

If we don't get him in January then I think we never will.

                      Oh wait, you're serious.

Firstly, if you don't thing Sami, Agger, and Carra are good defenders then you must have been dropped on your head as a child. Secondly, Lucas Neill is probably only being signed to give us some cover at RB and CB since Paletta is a spade footed clown.

Neill is an excellent player, who i believe is underated.

As has been said, he can play anywhere across the back four.

I wouldn't trade Warnock for him, but if we can get him for anything under 3m, he'd be a good signing.

3million with 6 months left is a rip off. Id rather sign him for free in the summer.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Whatever happened to Rafa wanting ‘laterals’ for full-backs? Finnan does okay but he lacks attacking thrust and dynamism. Neill is the same. Why are we going after him?

Also I hoped we’d be setting our sights rather higher than a ****ing utility defender from Blackburn who got slaughtered by his own fans for another inept performance in a home drubbing by Newcastle of all teams.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Nothing to do with him being Australian then..........?

                              Neill is average.
