It's not a question of where he is best. The question is where is he best for the TEAM.

Seeing as earlier in the thread you said 'TBH I think Stevie is better on the right' and 'he is going to be more involved and have more of an impact on the right', I don't see why you are now arguing that it's not a question of where he is best - you put the point up for debate yourself.Originally posted by SpeedyG View PostIt's not a question of where he is best. Anyway, it is a question of where he is best played to an extent - how much better he is in the middle affects whether it is best for the team to play him there or out wide.Like blood on iron

TBH I only made the point to make sure people understood that the team and balance is more important than SG.The Crushing Machine MKII

That's simply amazing. How anybody could think that Gerrard is at his best on RM is beyond me. No offenseOriginally posted by SpeedyG View PostI think he plays best on the right and plays best for the team on the right

I hear ya. I have the same issue that no-one will agree with me that '80s Cure is the best music ever. How can they not see itOriginally posted by CAD View PostThat's simply amazing. How anybody could think that Gerrard is at his best on RM is beyond me. No offense

Hes not the only one mate, I`ve always said that Gerrard is better on the right, both individually AND from the balance of the teams point of view.Originally posted by CAD View PostThat's simply amazing. How anybody could think that Gerrard is at his best on RM is beyond me. No offense

Would you agree that SG is best when he can play the free role. Turn up wherever he wants, wherever the other team is stretched, wherever the ball is?The Crushing Machine MKII

I dont know, how about Makelele? Man United aren't doing too badly with Carrick in there eitherOriginally posted by CAD View PostIf you want a team who is in contention to win the PL, it's not done with a player at CM who offers zero goalthreat.
Momo does very very little better than Gerrard!

I think we are missing the point when addressing the issue that way. It's the 'animal farm' approach. Just be happy and play for the team. Nothing else matters. Well, it doesn't work that way. I think that the "Gerrard has to shut up and play where Rafa says" brigade are missing the point. Gerrard is a CM. Either we play him there or we sell him. When we play Gerrard at RM he has to be at RM when we are off the ball. This means that he won't come from CM when we win the ball on the break. If you watch Gerrard closely you will see that it's actually one of the things he does best! Fast contra through the middle with a quick finish. He doesn't score those goals when played at RM. Just look at this season.Originally posted by SpeedyG View PostLet's see if we can find some middle ground.

Momo should not be compared to Makelele - He should be compared to Essien if we have to do this exercise (again). He plays further upfield than Makelele. Further more we don't play in a diamond. Another big diff! Alonso actually drops deeper than Momo both on and off the ball. Momo should have more assists. He should score more. He should get in the box more. Given the freedom Alonso provides both on and off the ball. Alonso and Momo together is stillborn. Carrick has two assists so far and we should take into account that he plays a different role for Unietd than Momo does for LFC. Momo has zero assists & two shots on goal this season! I think Momo is Rafas biggest mistake so far.
If Gerrard is moved our right again when Momo returns I will **** a tombstone!

Ok, a bit harsh. Just wanted to make sure the point came across
If Momo is instrumental in Gerrard being played OOP I think there is a point there somewhere...!

Pennant cost £6.7mil rising to £7m+. It was stated in the media everywhere and confirmed by Liverpool at the time.

You know what, this "rising to" business really gets my goat. It should be a 2 way street. If they play well, achieve certain goals then fine, increase the fee, but if they turn out to be a bag of ****e, the selling club should give some of the money backOriginally posted by Red_Al_77 View PostPennant cost £6.7mil rising to £7m+. I like that idea. Can we have some of our £30m back from the summer of 2002?
